No I don't think that had much impact. Either they are working on a better D-man or they have to move Zaitsev before they can bring in a D-man. The bonus due to Zaitsev on July 1, might be all they are waiting for to announce a deal. Once the Leafs pay that, his value goes up.

Can't see many other scenarios unless they do happen to move Zaitsev and bring a cheap contract back.
