If the Panthers buy-out Reimer, goodbye Sparks and hello Reimer for 800K? - JohnFergusonJr
Fack no.
Reims was garbage last year.
No more bringing back old crap. |

He cherry picked one season (his worst one) on a pretty bad team while ignoring the previous 8 years of solid back-up work.
Yeah, no doubt, at 3.4 million, not a good move. But at 1 million or less, Reimer is a steal. - JohnFergusonJr

Once Zaitsev bonus is paid, and Myers and Gardiner sign ... I think there is a market for him without having to add a "sweetener". - Aetherial
I concur.
The expected return may not be what we Leafs want but I think he can be moved without one. |

So he, at 30, had a bad year. One bad year. He's now garbage?
Just as a base exercise - if your backup options are:
Sparks, Hutchison, and then guys who are _possibly_ available around $1m:
Reimer
Johnson
Kinkaid
Montoya
Pickard
Lack
. . .Tokarski?
I'm assuming McElhinney and Mrazek have played their way into more lucrative contracts.
I know he did well in his few games here last here, but I honestly have no faith in Hutchison. |

We've had many 3rd pairing guys not making much money. Everyone absolutely hated them.
There's a reason why they are 3rd pairing guys not making much money. |

Well some players find a way to shine in a third pairing role with reduced minutes and time on the PK.
Jordie Benn is a good example of that. He's doing a very good job in a third pairing role but will absolutely kill you if you move him up the lineup. |

For sure.
And when we trade for them they don't look quite as good when they realize the forwards are of no help and they have to win the battle against two or three opposing players, and then ping an 80 foot pass to one of our forwards, while not icing the puck |

Whatever Dubas does, he has to upgrade the back up goalie position. Even more critical than adding a RHD.
Sparks does not belong in the NHL. |

Even if Marner signs a 6 year deal, and I'm Dubas, I think you have to consider moving both he and AM prior to the end of their deals. I'm a team guy first and you don't want to lose these assets. Got a bad feeling that these two will bolt in a heartbeat. Seen this song and dance too many times. - Leafsmart
Could happen but no need to worry about it. The history of these elite players signing 5 yr deals shows they almost always stay.
The reason they want 5 yr deals isn't so that they can leave ...it's so the maximize their leverage and earning potential on that next contract. |
