In a way it does though. Signing a player at 27/28 for 7 years usually works out the first 2-3 years then we start talking about their decline and buying them out. 3 years from now we’re going to have Kravtsov/Kakko/Fox/Shestyorkin etc coming off ELC’s looking for raises and if they follow the pattern that’s been set by the RFA’s lately that won’t come cheap.

I’m not saying don’t sign Panarin, but by signing him you have to believe we’ll be competing for a cup in 2-3 years. If you still think we’re 3+ years away then don’t sign Panarin. I’m split but if he wants to come to NY I think you have to roll the dice. He only has 4 years in the NHL vs 8-9 that most reach UFA with.

Ok, at least there is a base of solid reasoning here.
I, for one, think we are 2-3 MONTHS away from competing!! So, bring that Ruuskie in, dammit!!!!
If we see progress anywhere near the level we are hoping for from 2/3 of these young guys, we can make a run at a playoff spot. I doubt anyone can argue that we have just seen proof that all it takes is a plan, team commitment and a seat at the table to take the Cup home!!!!
I trust Gorton's plan. I trust Quinn's ability to focus this squad. And I trust that what we have seen in the division will continue - there is opportunity for advancement in the Metro right now. 3rd in the division could be taken by just about any team, why not us?

I want to give Kakko and Kravstov the opportunity to play with an elite European player, and a mentor for our young Russians

I am not thinking much further than that, play em one game at a time, see what happens

- jimbro83

players need chemistry what if Kakko and Krastov don't play well with Panarin, aren't they all wingers? what if K&K play best with Chitl what are you going to say suck it Zib is our number one center?

serious question

have you ever watched Panarin play? the guy is fantastic playmaker, the last thing I ever would worry about is that these young guys wont play well with him

I didn't watch a lot of Columbus hockey, honestly last season I spent so much time at my son's hockey games I didn't have a ton of time and with the Rangers sucking I didn't mind missing those games. great but can he do that where ever he goes or will he need talent around him? I'm broadening the scope is it because of one player or the chemistry one player had with others how they saw the ice?

Chiefs answer this, why? The guy performs everywhere he goes, especially the Isles, and he's not wanted. He' not as good as Bob, but is the difference really that large?

When was the last time the islanders made a good move in net? I mean they got rid of Luango for DP, that worked out well didn't it?

If true then I would have to think Panarin is coming with him. At least that's what I would hope otherwise doesn't make much sense IMO

In a perfect world I'm sure Lou would prefer Lehner and Panarin but if its a package deal how do you say no? Bob is still a stud goalie but its the last 3 years of the contract that would be an issue IMO

Yeah that's the problem for sure the back end, but if that's the only downfall if they can land both then I can live with it for sure. Plus who knows how many lockouts and buyouts will be allowed by then anyway
