It’s been the trend of late.

I hope they do well enough to be worthy of 10 mil a year after their ELC's

I want that problem to happen really badly

But then you can't re-sign Panarin

Just so I'm clear, this debate about signing Panarin and losing Kakko or Kravtsov is based on the same odds of me walking out the door right now getting bit by a shark, mauled by a grizzly and struck by lightning all at the same time

Well, in fairness, those odds are only low because your GF is stuck in the door jamb and even apex predators like the ones you mentioned don't have the stomach capacity to eat through all of her to get to you

Off the top of my head, Nylander Marner McDavid Draisaitl, Meier Tkachuk Point don’t want bridge deals either, they all want 8+
Edit: Mathews Rantanen (thanks chiefs)

- nyrangers9479

Well there is a big difference between wanting 12 million a year and something like 5-8 million a year. The trend of everyone demanding 12 million a year isn't there. Rangers gave Skjei what 5.5 million after his rookie deal? It happens but players demanding 12 million plus isn't a trend

No one is saying it’s 100% going to happen, all ppl are saying it’s a chance you have to think about and people go insane about someone thinking about it. It’s a legit thing to talk about.

It also means the other guys that we have would have to do well enough so we couldn't afford all 3 despite the cap going up and a bunch of bad contracts going off the books. Did we bridge ADA and suddenly he was a Norris finalist and we are paying him 10 million too?

Nylander got 7 million? Not looking it up, after a 60 point season. That’s insane. And then he sucked this year.

Off the top of my head, Nylander - $7M Marner McDavid - It doesn't matter, he may be one of the best to ever play the game Draisaitl - $8.5M, Meier - will probably be around $7M Tkachuk - will be $7M-$8M Point - not really sure, but will deserve every penny and then some don’t want bridge deals either, they all want 8+
Edit: Mathews Rantanen (thanks chiefs)

- nyrangers9479

And Marner absolutely does not want a max term deal, that is literally the issue that's holding all of this up. I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if any of those unsigned RFA's take 4-5 year deals so they get another crack at a mega-UFA deal in their prime. THAT'S the new trend. Not everyone is getting $10M right off their ELC and the ones that do deserve it.

Im not sure why you wouldn't want to sign Panarin.. If the only reason is because of the cap situation 2/3 years from now.. thats not good enough for me. Lets worry about it when we get there.

Also, if Kaako and Kratsov turn out to be superstars, the Rangers will find a way to keep them

I personally don't think it is. imo. The odds are so low that would happen. If we or better yet management based every decision on the lowest of odds that something might happen, you would never make any move.

You have to believe that both Kravtsov and Kakko will be two of the best players in the league after their elc's and would be willing to sit out if the Rangers didn't give them this magic number of 10 mill for 8 years. Do you honestly think the odds of that happening are even measurable

Not every player thinks/wants the same thing. I just don't think this is something to worry about. Other players take team friendly deals at times (Zucc), others take bridge deals. Rangers will have pretty much a wide open cap in 3 years. To not sign one player in Panarin for that reason is just dumb imo. If you don't want to sign him cause you think he won't be as good or will break down in 3-4 years then you can argue that. But for fear the team will be too good and players will demand more? I just don't get it

Really? Who.

We are having a discussion. You guys are basing it on the lowest of odds. So naturally people will disagree

I’ve talked before about signing these guys at 28 for 7 years and paying the last 2-3 years for a decline in play and half the people on here act like that’s not a thing either.

I’m saying sign Panarin, just if Kravtsov and Kakko are as good as we hope we might have a problem when their ELC’s are up.

but I don't agree that Panarin is the typical 28 year old

you and I agreed on not wanting Erik Karlsson for similar reasons

this guy is completely different
