Yeah I'm not seeing the connection to signing Panarin now and losing Kakko or Kravtsov in 4 years

I’m not comparing them or saying they’re the next Malkin and Crosby. What I’m saying is those teams had young players and let them grow. We have young players that project to be good, let’s see what we have in them before we go out and sign someone that could potentially cause us to lose one of them in 3 years.

I got nothing man. If they ever became a level where they are getting 90 pts, it would be your second tier guys that you'd lose. You'd either move heaven and earth to keep Kakko/Kravs or you take the kings ransom from the off sheet/trade. There's no scenario wher eyou lose them for nothing.

They added Hossa to both teams. When Sid and Malkin came in the league, they immediately got guys like Leclair, Recchi, etc. The bolded statement couldn't be further from the truth.
- 2sticks1puck

They won cups with Leclair and Recchi??? Interesting........

Im not sure why you wouldn't want to sign Panarin.. If the only reason is because of the cap situation 2/3 years from now.. thats not good enough for me. Lets worry about it when we get there.

Also, if Kaako and Kratsov turn out to be superstars, the Rangers will find a way to keep them

Panarin Kakko Kravtsov Trouba combined 40 million. That’s almost half your cap on 4 players, you can’t do that. Again, I’m not saying they will be Mitch Marner and want 12 million coming off their ELC’s, but that seems to be the trend of late.

Apparently someone that bar-backs at the Surf Lodge in Montauk said Panarin, his GF, and Theofanus were out there with Scott Malkin and Kimber Auerbach (Isles PR Director)

that's half the cap now, not syaing it will raise 30 mil in 5 or 6 years, but you can't say it will be 50% of our cap in the future.

Or that either rookie is going to get a $10M contract coming right out of their ELC's

No one is saying nothing, but you’re not getting a 100 point player in return. Offer sheet Marner and those 4 1sts are around 20. The picks in the 3rd and 4th year are 5-6 years away from playing in the NHL. Year one you lose him for nothing bc u don’t even get a pick until 2020. That pick likely doesn’t play until the earliest the 2021-2022 season. Etc etc for the rest of the picks while whichever team got him is getting 90-100 points for all those years.

When is the last time the Rangers have had a guy coming off their rookie deal demand a huge pay day? 2 or 3 players doing it this offseason doesn't single trend to me.

No it hasn't. It's been the trend with young superstars. Marner lead the Leafs in points with 94. Matthews averages over a goal every other game and was over a PPG last year. Rantanen has two consecutive seasons over a PPG. What other RFA's are getting $10M deals right out of the gate?

You are assuming that Kakko and/or Kravstov are going to be as good as those players and I'm telling you that's extremely far from a guarantee. Maybe they do, but to be claiming it now is crazy.

Off the top of my head, Nylander Marner McDavid Draisaitl, Meier Tkachuk Point don’t want bridge deals either, they all want 8+
Edit: Mathews Rantanen (thanks chiefs)
