What happens when they pull a Marner and want 12 million off their ELC’s also? You miss out on their prime bc you’re paying 31 year old Panarin 12 million. I’m not saying don’t sign him, just things we have to consider it when doing it. - nyrangers9479
if that happens, that means we are a GREAT team the next 3 years
if Kravtsov and Kakko are looking at 12 million contracts 3 years from now, holy moly we are going to have fun the next few seasons |

Panarin could be the new Martin St Louis
joins the NHL relatively late in his career, excels into his late 30's |

Yeah, I think that sort of strengthens your point. If that happens, you trade one of the two for some massive haul of prospects/picks and hope you can start the process again. |

Right now I'd like to see what we can do, we add panarin OK we have to free up cap space, which we will probably have to do in some capacity but I want to see what our young players can do. Do I think we are going to be a bad team, I don't know I want to win, and I want to win often. I think the future could be pretty bright, we just need to get there. |

I’m not worried about him health wise, but you can’t stop aging. Almost everyone starts to slow down around 30/31, some a year or 2 later. He could put up the numbers he is now his whole contract, but I wouldn’t bet on it. There will be a year or years at the end of his contract he will start to decline, that’s any player you sign at 28 to a 7 year deal, the question is how soon and how bad. Could we get lucky and at 35 he’s still a PPG player? I guess, but it’s very unlikely. I’m on board at signing him at 11 but that’s about the highest I go. You start getting into 11.5/12/12.5 and I think I’m out. This will all come to an end one way or another on Monday and then the dominoes with the rest of the roster will continue to fall. - nyrangers9479
Not that you aren't making true statements, but this is the way the league works right now. Unless Gorton (or you???) can come up with some incredible method of signing someone for what they will do, rather than what they have done, this is the cost of getting in the game.
It's not realistic to think that we can acquire talent without giving up some in return or paying them the going rate.
You're either trying to win, or you're not. |

If you're going to think in hypotheticals, you should do it both ways. What if at 31 Panarin is still putting up 90 points a year and any of the younger guys hovers around 50. Then you trade the 22 year old and you're not "losing" him. It's good asset management. |

I think I can, because in two years Lundqvist's contract comes off, Staal is gone, Shatty is gone and I believe the cap is going up then too
I think I can have both |

Or we can sit out the crazy that has become UFA and watch our guys grow together without running out and adding someone. Pitt didn’t add someone to Malkin/Crosby/Letang. Chi didn’t add anyone to Kane/Toews. I’m not saying they didn’t make trades to improve their team, but they didn’t go out and sign an UFA at 28 which would’ve hampered signing their own guys when the time came. Again, not saying dont sign Panarin, just things we have to think about. Are you ok losing Kakko or Kravtsov 3 years from now bc we have 31 year old Panarin. |

Let’s say we sign no one, I know this will never happen bc trades and signings do happen, but this is how we’re looking for the future.
Kravtsov Zib Buch
Kakko Chytil Andersson
Lemieux Howden Barron
Skjei Hajek Miller Lindgren
ADA Trouba Rykov Fox Keane
That’s an exciting young team coming up.
