Was talking about this earlier today.

The Carolina Hurricanes owner once said Aho was an untouchable player.

And he's got a lot of money. And the team is finally good and picking up interest.

It'd probably cost the same money to keep Marner that it would to offer sheet Aho successfully. It'd be a lateral move.

This whole thing is a charade, hard to see any top RFA's signing offersheets. The only interesting one will be Timo Meier of the Sharks. Sharks still have to add Joe Thorton, Pavelski maybe Nyquist and LeBlanc. After signing Karlsson, they are hard against the cap. If someone offers Timo $6 Million, not sure if Sharks are even able to match. So someone can get a young 30 goal scorer for say 5 years for a first and a third - might be worth it.

Because he knows he is as good or better than Matthews. Matthews is over-rated and far from a generational player, at least at this point and will be gone at the end of his new contract. Marner is closer to being a generational player, even though he isn't a centre. He has more upside and he wants to be a Leaf for life if they pay him what he is worth. The Leafs will rue the day if they let him go. Unfortunately, the Leafs probably will be unable to meet his demands.

This is already a win for Marner. When Shanahan was pushing his hometown discount garbage Mitch was probably laughing. I can see Marner in a Islanders uni.
