I don't think 11x8 would be an overpayment after year 3 where the cap goes up and some of the new and emerging big name guys are signing for 13/14+
Does anyone actually think by year 8 of that contract that he'll be making top 10 winger salary? Even though he'll still probably be a top 10 winger in the game. Trading him for "the best package offered" would be the stupidest thing Dubas could do, unless a team seriously overpays a la Jones, 1st, + which I'm well aware is crazy.
Trade Nylander! He's greedy. Wait. TRADE MARNER. He's greedy. This place is nuts. - UsernameUnknown
Truly is. Guys would actually prefer Nylander than Marner. They will die on that hill no matter what. Marner is already a top 5 winger. He could end up a top 5 player in the league altogether. No, let's roll with Nylander. |

Malkin > Matthews
Matthews had a higher goals/game and points/game on his ELC than Stamkos. Also, Stamkos plays in Florida - no state tax.
Matthews isn’t getting 15% either...
Best 5v5 goal scorer since coming into the league, playing with the likes of All-Stars Hyman, Kapanen, and Brown. - Steven_Seagull
He’s a great player, but he also was babysat by Babs with Kadri getting all tough lines. But I’m too lazy to go look at everyone else’s ( Malkin Crosby etc ) comp etc. IMO term was a little short for AM...I don’t care about the amount even if it’s a tad high. ( as he’s not on McDavids level, again JMO ) |

I don’t know anyone that thinks Nylander is better then Marner, I also don’t know why anyone is comparing the two because the money Marner is asking for takes Marner way about Nylander. They shouldn’t be compared. Ones a 7 million guy, the others going to be an 11. It’s a big difference. |

Yes. It's still an over-payment.
He's simply not worth that much. $10M for 8 years would still technically be an over-payment, but I would do that.
He should be topping out in the high $8's to low $9's, that's where all comparables put him. - GreatGigInTheSky
This is exactly right. They have built up his value so much through the media that It would look like an absolute sweetheart deal if he took a 9 million dollar deal at this point when in reality it’s where he should be oh well, I just want the kid wearing blue and white for the next half a decade and more. |

In his second year, Malkin took over after Crosby was injured. Was sensational. Faced all the toughest comp and dominated. |

Marner has a case to get paid a ton of money, and in the long run he's probably going to be worth it.
Even if he did get 11+ this season he finished 11th in the league in points and is trending upwards at a significant rate. Of course playing with JT helps but he also elevated JT's game.
It (frank)ing sucks for you guys, but that's the cost for players that put points on the scoresheet. |

Me too. I just hope common sense prevails and he doesn't stupidly overprice himself off of the Leafs. |

"ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers have now traded Mortiz Wagner, and to the Washington Wizards as part of the deal as a means to create cap space.
Davis will also waive his $4 million trade kicker for the Lakers, Wojnarowski adds, giving L.A. the opportunity to add a max player in free agency."
Bye Kawhi. |

I don't think he wants to be the 3rd wheel. IMO, Clippers are a better fit. |

I agree.
If it were down to me, I'd trade Marner for the best offer (doesn't matter what it is really) and build around the true stars on the team Riels, Snakes, Matts and Willy
Can't be paying big bucks to a guy who averages 22 goals a season. (frank) me I'd score more than that - walshyleafsfan
Yes keep a true goal scorer like nylander....20 goals.
Marner is a 90 pt plus player.
You lose that and youll lose production from JT.
It aint gonna be pretty. |

I like that he hung around the city for a couple weeks and took the time to see some poop with his baby momma. Go to the clips and be second fiddle to Lebron and forgo 50 million, and have to get to know new doctors and a new club, and have to compete with the Lakers. But it's sunny. Or take the 5 year deal and get the 50 million, play on a perennial east contender with the doctors and team you trust and know.
Seems like a no-brainer. |

Lebron turns 35 next season, Kawhi will be 28. It's not like he won't get another contract.
If he feels like he's going to be happier in LA then even some extra money doesn't change much. Every year of salary is like winning Lotto Max. He could get some pretty nice digs by the ocean for what he's making and still have plenty of money left over. |

Even if Matt Duchene doesn't sign with the Canadiens, he has shown to have more respect and class just for meeting the Canadiens management and hearing them out, versus pajama boy John Tavares who showed zero respect. #Habs #Canadiens
