Matthews sighed his deal when the cap was 78
- Santo_44

So what? The argument still stands. IF the argument is he should;t get more than Kane, then 10.5 is 12.9% of the cap, so less than Kane's 14.7. Matthews got 14.75% of the cap.

You’re using Kane’s second extension instead of his first...

That's because that's where we are. Or have you not noticed the RFA contracts are basically UFA thanks to Oilers, Buffalo and Leafs. That's why Matthews got 14.75% as an RFA.

The salary cap in the first year of Kane’s 5 year extension was 59.4. Kane’s cap hit was 6.3. That’s ~10.6%. That would make a cap hit of 8.64m on a 5 year deal for this upcoming season.

Ya but you have to add interest and greed.
Raises that number.

He signed before his third year. So no MVP. No Cup. Cup finals though. He won a Calder.

Guys the last few years are getting UFA money. Look at Dry Saddles percentage. The whole system is messed up now thanks to Oilers, Leafs, Buffalo. I fully agree they are all overpaid. I have been saying for months that these RFA deals are nuts, but that's where we are now. And the Leafs are just as to blame as anyone else.

Leafs are to blame because they signed one guy to a huge deal? That guy who has 111 goals in 212 games. Same guy is the best 5v5 goal scorer in the league, at worst second to McDavid. Doesn’t sound like a regular RFA player...

Before someone brings up Nylander, his cap hit this year is just 8.5% of the cap.

More recently Kucherov signed his deal after a 100 point season. At the 13.4% at the time, it would equate to 10.92 million now. He is older, but had played 3 years at the time. Mitch at 8.6 or whatever does;t really jive with the current contracts. I'd love it if it happened but it's not realistic.

Stop blaming the Leafs about how the system is (frank)ed.. it was the Oilers and Buffalo that (frank)ed it all up. And Toronto is now a victim because of it.

Even if he does, that's all he will do. Useless in any other area of the game. But I doubt he hits 60 points again.

(frank)ing Oilers. Hall got 50 points out of entry and they gave him 6 million, almost 10% of the cap. Man Edmonton is retarded. I blame them the most of any team. But then, why do other teams bow down just because Edmonton did something dumb?

True, he hasn’t. He’s had two 61 point seasons, but never 60.

I think that's what the other fella was getting at?
