Kane and Marner’s point totals on their ELCs are almost identical - Kane had 6 more points in 3 more games. Why should Marner get a lot more than Kane? On a 5 year extension, Marner shouldn’t get more than 9.5m, ideally it would be closer to 9m.
Trade the bum if he insists on 10.5+. - Steven_Seagull
cause marner was a year older putting up those numbers. |

You're right, not many teams have the same financial flexibility as the Leafs do, but recently Chris Johnston and Elliotte Freidman said it's not about money, it's about respect..

Maybe the Marner camp should stating showing some, then. |

At least with Jones, Babs would play Zaitsev less and use him on the 2nd PK unit.
Knowing Babs, Jones would play just over 20 mins. |

We kind of had to play him also. That was the year the Bruins lost to Ottawa and 5 of our defensemen were hurt. If we somehow got past that round, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because he would've eclipsed 10 games.
It happened with Cale Makar this year. He just hit 10. - RickJames77

His agent is a (frank)ing mook. He's done this same garbage with multiple other clients, and it never works and all it does is paint a black eye on them. I fully believe that every player should boycott the moron, before teams do it first. |

If Marner is butthurt that Leafs cheaped out on signing bonuses or whatever it was. It was Lou who is no longer with the organization that did that. So that respect thought process should be thrown out the window.
Marner will be a leaf this upcoming season, I'm 99% sure of that.

If Marner were to earn Kane money off his ELC, that would be @11% or about $9m/year.
If you want to show him respect, but also try to help your team, go for 12%, but at 6 year term for $9.8m/year. The only wingers making more would be Kessel, Parise, Giroux, Benn, Kane and Ovechkin. The only winger in history to make more coming out of ELC is Ovechkin. |

Don't guys always argue that it's cap percentage? I know many argued that when AM got his deal. Kane signed a few years ago in 2015-16 at 14.7%. That would equate to just under 12 million on an 81.5 cap. |

The salary cap in the first year of Kane’s 5 year extension was 59.4. Kane’s cap hit was 6.3. That’s ~10.6%. That would make a cap hit of 8.64m on a 5 year deal for this upcoming season. |
