We kind of had to play him also. That was the year the Bruins lost to Ottawa and 5 of our defensemen were hurt. If we somehow got past that round, we wouldn't even be having this conversation because he would've eclipsed 10 games.
It happened with Cale Makar this year. He just hit 10. - RickJames77
There's a yes and no in that whole equation. If you deem the kid good enough to not hurt you _already_, then you see the future ahead of them. It's almost in your best interest to put them in and retain some leverage.
They're not good enough, you wouldn't want to put them in a playoff game. That'd be like playing Gardiner in game 7. |

pure luck.
they never would have guessed he would end up a potential future norris winner at the time they let him play a few playoff games a few seasons ago. - MaximusAurelius
No a team that makes the playoff can take advantage of this. Unfortunately for the Leafs, Marner, Nylander and Matthews were drafted and started their entry level deals when Leafs were a non-playoff team. Huge financial advantage if used properly.

5 year ELC seems to be being talked up...current structure is eliminating the middle class. - Deeps27
Yup and there is a whole lot if middle class. |

5 yr ELC? I think that could work.. They'd only have two years left until free-agency then. |

I'll await Tumble's rebuttal. I'll admit, the CBA can be a bit dense and confusing - RickJames77

Who are we kidding, Babcock would put him on the top line and play him 21 minutes a night. |

Possible.
I could also see just all contracts are 5 years like the NBA. You'll get more player movement. |

Matthews is getting paid over 15 million on July 1 for his signing bonus this year.
Seems like he’ll have a nice long weekend. |

Re: Luongo
It’ll be interesting to see how the Canucks approach retiring Lu’s number in the wake of his retirement and how it screws the organization for a few years. |

What I think it really hinders is the Schneider and Lack retiring ceremonies. For a franchise to have the three best goalies in the world at the same time was impressive beyond belief. |
