But I like the plan.

This is already a win for Marner. When Shanahan was pushing his hometown discount garbage Mitch was probably laughing. I can see Marner in a Islanders uni. They will more than likely be four back of the bus first rounders anyways. If I was Lou I'd do it just to upset Shanny, but I am sure Lou is much more mature than I. Or is he? - Hardbalz
The Isles are taking a huge step back this year.
That’s for sure. |

I’ll bet anyone there will be zero offer sheets this summer. |

there might be offersheets, but if no player is signing, can't really know. |

Keep Matthews-Tavares-Marner-Rielly-Dermott-Hyman.
Rest of team all potentially available - at least not 'core'.
Leafs need to become better at special teams, so expect Leafs to add:
- 1 or 2 d-men that can play really well on PK.
- one bottom 6 fw (ideally a C) that is a great PK'er.
- 1 top 6 fw that can play well on PP 'JVR style'.
With Gardiner likely gone and Dermott out with an injury until Dec/Jan; I wouldn't be surprised if Leafs keep Zaitsev and give him PP2 time (With Marner and 'new JVR').
The other main point is to give Matthews better linemates - I like Kapanen, but I think he's not the best match for Matthews either - nor is Johnsson.
I would get another LW (Zucker if available would be great) and then play Moore with them.
Zucker-Matthews-Moore
play Kapanen on 3rd line.
Hyman - Snake - Marner
Zucker - Matthews - Moore
Mikheyev - new C - Kapanen
?? - Gauthier - Brown
trade Johnsson, Nylander and Kadri - for upgrades on D and a 3rd line C / 2nd line LW.
stronger D through trades.
Keep Brown because he can play on all lines in different roles if required (similar to Kapanen-Moore)
and get a decent backup goalie - or even consider getting a new starter instead of Andersen who has proven to not be a solid playoff performer unfurtunately.
I wouldn't go Bobrovskiy at all, but adding Georgiev from NYR or even Talbot as backup could be worth it. |

If he's already turned down over 10mil and he goes out pimpin for an offersheet and nothing comes up and he comes back to the leafs then he's dead in the water and they have him by the balls. Oh you didn't want our overpayment we offered a week ago and you got no offersheet? Yeah well it's not 10 anymore, take 9 now. - Burn
You forgot that part where they show the douchebag team the spreadsheet describing how they have less and less cap space during the inevitable threat to hold out.
You know that the Leafs will work to not alienate this guy, but I kinda wish they would. If he is going to the highest bidder anyway, then (frank) him.

Its funny, all the expert posters on here are so sure hes turned down this amount or that amount.
Maybe irs not just about the money.
Maybe its term
Maybe he wants lock out protection
Maybe he wants it structured so hes taxed less
Maybe he wants what little willy got, a huge amount upfront.
Chill people.
NO SUPERSTAR RFA HAS SIGNED YET.

It's bush league having dreger so obviously negotiate publicly for him.
Marner should be embarrassed and dump his agent.
If he does sign with the leafs using dreger as his his agent, i hope never to see an A on his jersey.

Or maybe Marner isn't too happy with GM strategy or Coach handling him or teammates efforts..?
We really don't know.
I agree it's way too early to focus so much on Marner - all of Provorov, Aho, Tkachuk, Point etc. aren't signed either..
