I’d take Hutton Stecher as a third pairing if the price was reasonable, and there was no chance they would have to move up the roster if there was an injury.

3rd pairing generally always moves up a couple times a season. Hopefully with a better team and Hughes carrying a bit more of the load on the left side. Edler can play 15 more games than he did last season. Possibly with some experience gained from Brisebois and Sautner last season, even if Edler does go down. He won't need to play 30 minutes a night.

I'm not sure, maybe Florida had something to do with it? Regardless, it was a rule put in after the contract was signed. It's on the league, not Lu.

Why accept a contract and then penalize it later? How many more contracts are out there that were signed prior to the recapture rules coming into effect? Weber, Suter, Parise? not many.

The rest were circumvented, it might be good business for the league to drop it.

I hate Gillis and all the damage he did with his contracts and prospects but that is another topic for another day.

The recapture is a kick in the nuts but it won't hurt the Canucks. They will be moving out some of these contracts very soon . They will still go after Brock and Myers but maybe now will have to skip on Nyquist which will be a good thing if they had to sign him 5 years.
