Looks like you and I were wrong on the Luongo fiasco, we both said there’s zero chance of recapture lol, but this is the most cursed franchise in sports history - Pacificgem
Lou planned all this out to f*uck us on purpose I would put money on it.
We gave him the contract HE wanted, then he whined about how his 'contract' sucks when he and Kesler were pulling their back-door trade demands. Handcuffed the team to FLA on the trade list...on and on so f*uck him. Don't give a poop if he was the most successful goalie in franchise history. |

How did the Canucks go from being the team in the best cap situation in the league to being unable to sign one of the best UFA monster D men in ages because they have no cap space, in only a week? - 1970vintage
lol maybe this is a good thing taking money away from Benning at this particular point? |
|
|

The only problem with that is if you trade any players with any value at the TDL it increases the chances that Tampa will be getting a lottery pick the following year.
Not only did Benning overpay, but he has eliminated flexibly in a big way. - CubanBuffet
Not necessarily - you're getting rid of excess baggage/expiring contracts, doesnt mean you'll be regressing the next year. The team has been trending up the last 3 seasons and as the new core moves forward (into their primes) I see the team continuing to improve. I think this will be the last year we miss the POs for the foreseeable future. I think thats the mentality/gamble behind the Miller trade. |

Lol I don’t think he hates the fans but the Canucks yes. That whole situation was a fiasco from all sides. Coaches players GM ownership and obviously he too has take a large brunt in the whole deal as well. F@cking joke. |

i don't think it's about hate.
i think he's a panther in his heart. he feels he owes more to that organization than this one so you can't really question his loyalty.
is the hockey hall of fame like baseball where the player has to choose a uniform to go in? if so, and if he were to get in, i'd think he'd choose florida. |

No one is going to give us high picks for our baggage. Anyone that gets moved at the TDL will be because other teams want them: Markstrom or Tanev for example. Moving players like that for picks makes sense if you are rebuilding, but not when you’ve traded a potential lottery ticket. |

Canadian teams are all run like crap, gifting American teams constantly, no wonder no cups in Canada for 26 franking years. |

The Luongo thing is not that big a deal, guys. The penalty is fairly negligible once the retained salary is subtracted—and let's not forget that our current No. 1 goalie and team MVP, Jacob Markstrom, was part of the return in the Luongo trade.
More on Loo and a few other Canucks notes, in the new blog:

Not a lot of teams taking on contracts right now. Haula got a 5th and they still had to take back a minor league contract. There’s your benchmark for Sutter. - Shuswap Wap
Many factors are in play...
The smaller cap.
No owners now wants to take on bad contracts to solely waste money.
GM’s don’t look to help rivals without getting a bonus.
E-draft is looming & a player on LTIR cannot be exposed.
RFA’s are proving to want to cash in big.
I miss any?

they couldve traded dorsett's expiring contract for luongo freeing florida entirely from his contract and allowing van to control the outcome again. i want to know if that was because van wasnt interested, luongo wasnt interested in waiving ntc, or the league would have still (frank)ed van because he wasnt really "injured" - johnnykarate
FLA probably rather eat the $1m than trade with a sweetener. |

Well it was MG & Lou’s agent who brokered the deal that he signed. Took 3 to get it done. |

Next CBA somethings needs to be done about the tax free states. Slowly over say 5yrs rework the cap formula. |
