This 3m cap hit... on a player who demanded a trade...who is retired....makes my head hurt. (frank) you Betteman... (frank) you Gillis... and FA if Gillis' accusation is true.
If there is any talk of Lu making the ring of honor... I'll puke.
I dont think anyone who demanded out makes the so called honor. Sorry Pavel, love ya but that includes you. Kesler... give me a break. If those 3 are on it... it should be called Ring Worm of Honor.

OK but $26 million is 25% of $104M, do you think it will exceed that? - golfingsince
How much is off the books by then? |

My penchant for rosterhawking spells out how cap allocates in future seasons. Someone go ahead & give it a whirl. |

Only Luongo's $3M is on Gillis. Benning must have known about that before he signed on, I mean we all did.
Of course, some thought it would never happen. Don't worry that we overpaid for Beagle, traded picks for Gudbranson's and Sutter's, cap space won't be an issue. Now we aren't worried about trading a 1st round pick as part of a package to a cap strapped team because we're going to go for it and make the playoffs.
We aren't against signing declining players to long term contracts, because the GM saves his job? Why? Because of his drafting?
He's had the opportunity at a pile of top 40 picks for 6 years, like no Canucks GM has seen in a long time. I sure as hell hope he has some nice new shiny pieces, but he has holes to fill because he never hung on to his other picks to begin with. He continued that trend at this draft, despite it being obvious to anyone who can't be described as anything else than "Benning loyalists" that he overpaid. - golfingsince

Thanks Carol.
I haven't back read yet, but, Lefty and a few others, guaranteed me that this wouldn't happen.
This is just another reason why, the trade to win now, was foolish IMO.
Now back reading begins. |

Wish I could remember all the ppl who gave me sh!t when I tried to explain how stupid that contract was/how inevitable recapture was. I hope they fight it. |

Lefty assured me the lotto would have helped us by 3 tries. You get the tar, I'll get the feathers.
Nothing wrong with adding players now especially with a reasonable contract. Something wrong with sending the 1st rounder though. That has no relation to Lungo's cap hit.
The good news is in 2 years, most likely Podz will be added to the top 6 on a 3 year ELC. So there is that smart move.

My biggest gripe is that it should have been grandfathered in as a new rule
Especially with teams LTIR’ing there way out of it in most cases anyway |

Yes, but I think someone mentioned that the transfer agreement between the SHL and NHL is a lot more friendly. I think the Canucks could buy out his SHL deal, but don’t quote me on that.
Frankly, I’d rather keep prospects away from the AHL as long as possible. So far there’s been more negative than positive stories/development under Cull. I’m sceptical about him lasting very long in Utica |

With this Luongo thing we're going to need them to be locked down for 3 years. |

It only works out to 2.2m doesnt it? His salary comes off the hit? It complicates things but let's not get carried away... this is not a Toronto situation over 2.2m. There's plenty of fat that can be trimmed over the next 3 off seasons.
If it's still JB's team after 2 more seasons, I'm confident he'll make space for ELC's if they make the team. He has been true to that all along. If it's a different GM... well who knows. Fu*k face Gillis traded Grabner right after he had a 4 goal pre season game as a throw in toss away for a crippled vet. Who knows what the next GM will be like.

Doesnt sound like he's locked into more than one then? 2nd is an option? Out clause?
Is it possible he makes the team next season then?
