Well we're talking about signing Myers and just expecting somebody to take LE for peanuts. I'd say given how we just acquired salary for a 1st round draft pick and have handed out contracts to LE, Sutter, Beagle and Gudbranson it really isn't a stretch at all.

Less than a year ago many people thought Beagle's deal wouldn't have financial ramifications. That's 12 Million for LE, Beagle and Luongo in 3 years. The only one that Benning knew about when he got hired was the possibility of Lu's cap hit. Even if the cap is at $90M that's about 13.5 % of max salary cap for those 3 players.

Let that set in.

Tiny or leap would have signed that contract in a f*cking heartbeat if they were in Lu's shoes. He was the best goalie in canuck history and that's it. Huge congrats on a brilliant career and wish him well. People whining about luongos cap penalty need to shut up.

Schaller doesn't even count, that's $1M if we sign an entry level replacement player. Entry level guys now are going to need contracts. You can't expect guys like Gaudette , Juolevi etc. to produce and pay them like bums.

Edler still provides something, so you have to replace what he brings. For a team so many years into a rebuild where the absolute only contract still signed by Gillis is haunting them is Lu's, they're not in a good cap situation moving forward. BTW, at 90M Lu's penalty would only be about 3% of the cap.

OJ will not get a substantial raise . Gaudette had 5 goals last year and from the sound of it , Smyl made it sound like he will be returning to Utica this year to get his proper development.

I'm a little surprised by your take on this. It had nothing to do with Gillis. He signed a legal contract with his player following several examples that had already set the precedent. Bettman simply changed the rules after the fact.
