I am trying to project ahead a little for big picture salary cap implications. The cap rose about 1-2% while it seems salaries have risen disproportionately (Nylander, Hayes, E.Karlson, the list goes on). I get it that professional athlete salaries are always eyepopping and wallet busting... my observation is that in a cap world who can afford to ice a team anymore. It seems like it is back to the days with diminishing 'middle class' players. Is there information out there that shows how close the entire league is to the salary cap (ie. 31x81.5m= 2.5billion) and is the league overall spending closer to the cap? The little guys in the union won't be happy if this is a trend and if it continues.

I wouldn’t say any of those salaries are disproportionate.
-Nylander is a bargain going forward
-Hayes is a tad overpaid, but the difference between him and Duchene is hair thin, so Duchene will be the disproportionate deal
-Karlsson is the best player at his position signing his big UFA deal

Burke was on Hockeycentral today (I guess everyday ? dunno - just happened to catch a bit of it today) ... the net net is he wasn't necessarily against the amount being paid to players - he thought the terms are way out of line ... too long

He spoke about Troubs - he likes the player, has some bite/stands up guys/good open ice hitter, top 4 Dman but 3 at best ... never turned into the offensive threat he was expected to ... continued to say $7.5M to $8M is in line with the market - BUT NOT FOR 7 YEARS !

Also said the best deadline trade this past spring was Mark Stone ... and the worst trade was Mark Stone ... once again - "they'll choke on the term"

Just sharing ...

not disproportional to comparables, I am thinking of the speed that contracts are rising is disproportional to the amount the cap is rising.

so do you want to be on the record as a defender of all three of those contracts?

Ah, yes. In that case, fair play, carry on.

Well, no. Seeing as I specifically pointed out how one of them was an overpay.

Defending Nylander’s deal is about as easy as defending Morrissey’s skating ability in that its almost impossible to be on the wrong side of the debate.

Karlsson was simply paid his due. If injuries come into play, it could be bad, but that’s the same with everyone ever. He’s worth his price tag.

*Points up 50 points* *among leaders in points per/60 at 5v5 for years* “never turned into an offensive threat”

As for Mark Stone, he’s a top 5 player, and will likely outperform his cap hit for 6 of the seasons

I’ll add this:

Mark Stone is more likely to be worth $9.5mil in the 8th year of his deal than Blake Wheeler is likely to be worth $8.5mil next season

There goes Miller. Anyone know if Chevy has service at the cabin?

What do expect Rexypoo, this GM doesn’t take the day off as his nam suggests, he takes the whole summer off.

He should change his name to Chevelsummeroff.

From the looks of things the Jets are back into rebuilding mode. Those picks are too valuable to give up.
