For one year, I see no problem.
Also in there: Hall texted Shero "✔️" after the trade. |

Always a good read, thanks Todd. I just see it differerently. I would rather have one of the Devs youngsters on that line and use that 4.5 million and more on someone to slot into the left or right side of Hughes. |

Would Frolik push Boqvist or Bratt down? Considering the Devils recently just traded for Hayden? |

As it stands right now I'd still put Hall-Hischier-Bratt as the top line, then decide who plays LW with Hughes and Palmieri. |

Boqvist, probably. Frolik on a 3rd line with Zajac and Coleman would be a nice possession driven line that could have some offensive impact. I think Bratt will likely start in the top six somewhere unless some kind of move for a big winger is done, which I'm not sure is all too likely. |

We really need to set our heights a loy higher. Why give up anything for a third line player unless they are paying us to do so ? Is that all every Devils fan thinks we need and then we are done???? The final piece to this team is a third liner ? Am i the only one that thinks we NEED ANOTHER LEGIT TOP LINE PLAYER?
Going into this off season I could never of imagined the main focus would be landing that perfect. 3Rd liner. |

How much cap you want to take on in a year we just added 9 mil in Subban and its a season before Hall, Nico and Bratt need to be signed? |

Why shouldnt we be looking at better players though? Like an actual upgrade to the top line that isnt a rookie or a player whos dealt with injuries much of his career.
Im not debating wether or not he would be an upgrade on the third line but like I said why they hell is that a priority with the talent level on this roster.
If I had Nico and Hughes down the middle I would be embarrassed that we didnt have better wingers for these 2 instead we are looking for help for Zajac.... |

It's not that the team was lacking top end talent and had good depth players, it's that the team was lacking quality in all facets. The best teams in the league are rolling good lines top to bottom, and we had maybe one acceptable line last year. You can give up your bigger assets to move into bigger players, but if your depth players suck you're still going to lose games come playoffs. |

I think you need to see how much Hall is going to cost before you add another big salary unless a too good to be true trade falls in Rays lap. Over the next three offseasons need to extend Hall, Blackwood, Butcher, Nico, Brett, Hughes and possibly Vatanen. That's not going to be cheap. |

That literally has nothing to do with what I said there are good players on cash strapped teams making good money.... The list of players you could hypothetically trade for in that same cap hit as frolik that would have a greater potential of playing in the top six is a lot.
Pay an extra mill a year to get a guy that belongs on the top line vs getting a fourth rounder and a good deal on a need we dont even really have to slightly uograde the third lines.
Palms is a good second line winger imo and Hall a good top line winger if we had one more player with a skill level sonewhere in between Hall and Palms that would fill a need much more imo.
When everyone echoed this team needs more talent i figured they meant elite talent and like a lot more of it not a 30 yro Subban a change of scenery project now possibly a third line cap dump? |

I think Vatanen becomes expendable, don't you think? If you have Subban and Severson on the right side it doesn't make a ton of sense to have a lot of money tied up in another righty defeseman, especially if Ty Smith is expected to play his off side. Vats might be a good trading chip to a team in need of defense with his reasonable ~4 mil cap hit. |

We went from bottom dwellers to almost must win, with Hall at 28, PK 30, Cory... We def need a elite winger to take advantage of this blessed situation we find ourselves in. Why waste PK's and Hall's best years. Its time to not only make the playoffs, but make some noise in there!

If you're looking for a high end wing making approximately 4.3 a year, you are going to have to pay up. What are you willing to give up?

No way...
2 1sts and Bratt.
Laine will get you 40-50 goals every year, especially with Hughes.
If Laine isnt that good, in Winn. eyes, then he can be had for less. |

I guess if you look at it that way or you can hope we move some of these guys like vats and a pick for a decent player on a good deal so we dontnhave to worry about over paying a bunch of mediocre players.
Like on most elite teams palms would be considered adding scoring depth yet he is a lock for the top 6 not just the 6th guy in that top 6 but basically the number 2.
I personally would be aiming for a guy to push Palms down there is youre depth why are we looking outside for depth when we should be lookong for more skill to push the guys down we have and yes even our good players. |

I agree he probably is expendable, and Carrick looked useful in a limited role last year. I just cringe at what our defense has looked like the last few years, and being able to roll out Subban, Severson and Vatanen all on different pairings is a nice luxury for once. |
