If they got rid of Hornquest and Perry for under $4mm, yeah not a bad idea.

Id bet someone will give him close to 5 though.

a 35 year old coming off a major injury with significant time missed? This is the end for him. He needs to be a complete passenger and get power play time to produce. We don't need that here.

I think Perry will get around $4MM for 1-2 years

Pretty crazy that if Fleury gets 30 wins this year he enters top 5 all time in goalie wins

Even I think this blog was overly snarky and unnecessary. Three Cups gets you in the HHOF no ifs and or buts. Rutherford might be susceptible to putting his brain away for multiple seasons at a time, but he’s achieved plenty as well.

I love how it’s lighting in a bottle, then he reads off like 8 players that Rutherford acquired that all played key roles in Stanley cups. It must suck to try and be a fan of a hockey team that’s won 3 cups in a decade and your sole appreciation of it is to try and disprove the head office of that team. That’s the main reason people invent stats though.

I’m not. Pens need someone who has some balls and isn’t scared to be dirty once in awhile. I would buy out Hornqvist pansy ass to add Perry.

Has balls? Playing over the line doesn’t mean you have balls. Marchand doesn’t have balls and neither does Perry. These guys rarely drop their mits, their basically sewn onto their jerseys. You could argue they have the balls to try to get away with garbage but that’s it. The guys who actually drop their gloves (Gudbranson, Oleksiak, Petts) are the guys who actually have a pair

Perry’s a long way from Marchand. And has worlds more skill than Hornqvist. Not to mention we wouldn’t have those after the whistle penalties Hirnqvists serial facewashibg brings.

Doesn’t change the balls discussion and I’m not sure why you’re bringing up 72 anyways. He’s a grinder, not necessarily a pest or an enforcer imo. The main guys he pesters are the goalies, not really the opposing skaters

Cant wait to hear all about how lightning in the bottle made all the saves when Fleury gets the nod.

Any guy who has waited for a whistle and linesman his whole career to face wash people thinking he’s being some sort of disturbance to the other team doesn’t get my respect. I bring him up because I want to clear his salary and sign Perry. Unless Hornqvist is a staple in the top 6, which doesn’t look that way.

Someone will invent a stat to disprove him by then.

Sounds like someone doesn’t like Rutherford. Just a guess though.

Yeah I read your post but buying out Hornqvist would be really unwise IMO and I don’t see him waiving to go to many spots. Plus it doesn’t sound like GMJR wants him gone so it’s pretty moot. FWIW I don’t enjoy watching him play either

This actually makes a ton of sense for the Pens, but not in the way that it’s a good decision, rather it’s the type of move I’ve come to expect.

Watch JR move Guds or JJ and use that money on Perry.

There is always a way to move a mid tier player like Hornqvist.

So we’d get rid of JJ? Lol, deal. I’m willing to give up serious value for Johnson. Like, I’d give up a first+.

Man sign me up for that. I'd say Perry could be had for 2 to 3 mill if the Pens wanted him, especially if he's reaching out to them. So less cap hit plus I think Perry would be a net positive on the ice, if only a little, whereas JJ is net negative.

There’s always a way to get around a full NTC without a buyout? Weird. Because Phil has a MNTC and we haven’t been able to move him yet

Guys if Perry gets a good summer of training in, further rehabilitates the injury and then a good training camp he could suprise a few here. I dont have delusions of 40 goals but I could totally see him get into the 20's, which is solid production.

In no way do I want Perry, but if you told me I could lose JJ as long as I brought in Perry, I’d be in

Article was such a joke I finally signed up just to comment on it. Rutherford completely transformed this team in only 1 1/2 seasons. He took a team that was old and slow and most experts said Pens window was over. Look at the roster before he took over and the roster that won the Cup. Only Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Letang, Maatta, Dumoulin, and Fleury was left. The whole supporting cast was transformed in a Lightning fast way. Only 3 forwards!! What Rutherford did to transform this team into a back to back Cup winners is worthy of Hall of Fame. Add in his winning a Cup with Canes before his Pens hiring is icing on the cake.

Perry is getting paid no matter what for the next few years. If he really wants to win then he could take a small deal for a couple years. I could definitely see him signing on a contender for 2 years at $2 mil a season
