So to summarize so far.
Tanev - 3 x 3M too expensive
Lowery - Winnipeg probably not trading
Carpenter - Fourth liner, 2nd PK unit, meh
Frolik - Flames anxious to move him (make it happen Stan)
Sikura - the kid sucks/the kid is okay give him a chance
Lee - is a good fit/too much money, too long of term
Perry - douchebag/just the player the Hawks need for a year
Have I missed anyone?

I think what’s really key about bowman wanting 1 year contracts is that he wants money coming off the books to sign deb and strome. Best case scenario stab goes out and gets penalty killers from a team in a cap dump type move, looking at frolik as an interesting option. - Samwelsey
That's great but who then fills the roster next season - |

They need time to see how many of the prospects can step forward. They will be on ELCs and affordable for some time. Maybe guys like Dach, Boqvist, Beaudin, Barrat make it out of camp in a year.

Entwhistle, Kurashev, Hagel, Saarela also could be in the running for a spot on the team in a year.

Waiting by his phone and ready to tell Stan he's good with a $900K salary for 1 year. |

I know optimism is the order of the off season and why shouldn't it be? But, I also think we need to level set every so often to keep perspective within the optimism.
With the Blues going from the outhouse to the penthouse in the last half of the season - the old axiom that anything can happen once you get to the playoffs is bolstered. So the objective is to make the playoffs and see what happens - but does anyone think the Hawks will be one of best teams in the playoffs next season? Did anyone think the Hawks could go from missing the playoffs in 208/19 to being one of best teams in the league in 2019/20 in one off season?
The mission of this off season was to improve the team defensive so we're not the worst PK team and the 2nd worst in goals given up. To a large degree that mission looks to be well on its way to being accomplished. That mission doesn't include acquiring top scoring forwards like Pavelski and Lee - it does include getting good defensive forwards that play PK like Frolik, Tanev, and Lowry.
For those of us who will be disappointed if Stan doesn't go out and acquire a big sexy forward - we have taken our eyes off the mission. Everyone would like Stan to construct an all star team but the economic realities tells us that it's not possible. Stan has to look past the 2019/20 season and adding to the cap has to be done with not only the 2019/20 season in mind. If the pieces were in place where adding a Pavelski would push us into legitimate contender status - then, as with previous Cup contending seasons, I would be in favor of a "mortgage the future for a go for it now" stance - but that's not where this team is at right now. |

All of a sudden Stan is looking for one year deals on the cheap? Regarding the forwards, This is starting to smell of the same stench of last summer. Rocky will have two words for him come next April if these guys do not make the playoffs. That forward group that some post currently, is not good enough to make the playoffs let alone compete for a Stanley Cup. I don’t care how many new cultures ,coaches and new systems they have. There’s more than a few guys on those projected forward lines, that are not interested in paying the price, much like the type of play that is needed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Dylan Sakura is nothing more then a Borderline fourth line/AHL . The short of the story, all the talking Stan, go big or go home!
I am sure more than a few guys will agree with me on some of this. |

I might be inclined to agree with you more if this is the roster come opening night in October. But... it’s only June 26. Stan’s done a decent job so far in adding value to the defense without creating any roster holes or heavy cap implications. Let’s give him some time to do the same with the forwards. |

I’m kind of the same mindset as you are, but I figure I would get it out there nice and early, because we all saw what happened last year at this time. I am not advocating spending $11 million a year on one player unless it is what I proposed in my last post yesterday regarding Matthew TKACHUK
No mention of Ryan Dzingel,Colin Wilson, Zuccarello, and a few others.
Here’s hoping Stan has a significant trade or two up his sleeve. I would love to see him poach the Winnipeg Jets, for a kid like Lowery, or the maple leafs for a kid like Kadri , yes I know what he’s about, and if he does make it to Chicago, the first time he plays the Bruins I expect him to man up. I am not letting him off the hook for what I term cheap shot but it might’ve just been his intensity and in the heat of battle. I admit the kid goes over the line sometimes but he does compete hard. That’s kind of a little sample of what I would like to see as far as acquiring A couple of forwards |

I've been hoping that the Hawks pick up Tanev for a while now.
Lowry has a spot on the Hawks too but I am not the Jets would lose both.
Losing both would be BAD for the Jets honestly.
I would love to see Tanev in a Hawks jersey plus I could then mock my fellow Winnipeggers which is always fun |

How about offer sheeting Winnipeg's Andrew Copp at the cost of a 2nd round pick. Four years at 4M. He can make Brendan Saad expendable. |

In Friedman’s 31 thoughts today:
“14. Is there an extension coming for Chicago GM Stan Bowman? That’s the rumor, but he was coy at the draft. Wouldn’t confirm or deny.” - TommyHawk
But but but he rides Daddy's coat tails, he caused uncle Dale to lose his job, all his trades are bad, he can't draft players ....... Anything else I'm forgetting? |

Stay!
2nd line quality winger that plays a 2 way game. He is a PK forward and Hawks are already looking to add some of those, so we'd just create another opening. We'd pay more to replace him than what he makes and we already know what we have in him. At his age and contract...keep him. Revisit Saad when he is going to be UFA. |

I know it isn't probable, but Kurashev is my dark horse pick to make the team. Beaudin would be my pick on the back end, but I feel like the Hawks have too many Dmen for him to break in. |

There are good players available every year. Plus some prospects could be ready. Although Bowman is probably planning a few years in advance, let's focus on this coming season. |

Copp is not a Saad replacement - he has never even hit 30 points, worse at transition, passing, shot suppression, etc etc.
Not a bad addition, but not as good as Saad.
