I was a little surprised that Eddie O kept mispronouncing his last name during the presser but just summed it up to his Chicago accent?Probably over annalising this as Eddie is quite capable of saying the rock without it sounding like datch.

So what's the next big summer event and when? UFA signings?

Did anyone read about Hartman being on a fishing trip up north with no cellphone service until Saturday. He has no clue he was traded and then released

Saw tweets from his mom telling him he needed to talk to her. Pretty darn funny.

Anyone get a chance to read this Chris Kuc interview with SB?

https://www.nhl.com/black...building-pt-1/c-308090586

I have new respect for JC for his interview questions he asked for the new hire for assistant. Also liked what SB had to say about Seabs.

Just read it. Highly recommended. Some great insight there.

- paulr

Dreger on Panarin: "There's some that believe he's with the New Jersey Devils or Lou Lamoriello and the Islanders today...There's some speculation Panarin wants a bit more than $12M annually, that might push the New York Rangers out of the game."

is it prounouced "Dock" or "Dak" or "Datch"? I'm excited for him, like has been said, his edgework combined with hands/puck skill, vision/playmaking, and sheer size for puck protection....

- EnzoD

I believe it is "dawh" with the "h" pronounced as it would be in the word "hot". It is a Ukrainian name and the pronunciation is not easy to translate into English as there are sounds in Ukrainian that are not duplicated in the English language.
How do I know?
-I studied Ukrainian in High School
-I know people with this last name and that is how it is pronounced unless it is Anglicized. Kirby is from the same area so I think he may be in fact related to them.

Right now appears to be the calm before the storm of transactions. Teams might be taking more time - not a lot more time, but probably deeper consideration - before jumping into this fracas In and around July 1.

From a Blackhawks perspective two points stand out.

A chief rival, Arizona, is in position to improve the quality and quantity of their lineup due to the extremely generous trades they are going to complete. Salary cap hell reaps a wi nner in The Coyotes. They finished with more points than us last season and they appear as capable or even more so this upcoming season

A second point is that there is not going to be a Seabrook buyout. Long term injury may be an option at some point. It is difficult to gauge how much an intense summer workout can help his skating. His is an issue with 1) skating form; 2) the league has become faster since his rookie campaign and he has not kept pace with improved skating; and 3) father time has caught him maybe sooner 0 than other players.

No pronouncements yet until we see at the end of camp if he has improved his skating. It does appear that some skill set is reduced for him when his skating has actually been worse nowadays.

The Bowman approach i do not believe this time is to give away a top prospect just to get rid of a bad contract. Seabrook is not changing address as we will just long term injury or healthy scratch. When that happens is probably later this season and the following season for sure.

Many outlets had Bowen Byram and Alex Turcotte rated higher than Dach. Why were you so set on Dach?

At the end of the day, you have to love the player that you draft. You have to be excited when you wake up and you come to the rink and this guy is there and you're going to watch him practice and play. With Turcotte and Byram, I think they're going to have excellent careers. They're going to be really good players. And there's nothing wrong with that. As long as Kirby comes in and is able to do what he does and imprint our franchise in a positive light then there's nothing wrong with Byram and Turcotte having great careers. It's perfectly possible for all three of them to be really good NHL players for many, many years.

I don't look at it as there is only one of these guys who is going to make it or is the right player. It's more [that] he's right for what we're looking for. Kirby brings a skillset to the table that is unique. We don't have anybody like him. We don't have a player coming up like him and I looked back at the last 10 years I've been here and I've never had the ability to acquire a player like that. There are very, very few big, skilled, right-handed centers that can make plays, that can play physically and that can play a two-way game. They're just never available. He's a very driven kid. He's not just sitting here excited he got drafted. He's ready to go to work and make our team and be the best player he can. And I love that about him.
