#Panthers are getting calls on forward Mike Hoffman. Up to about six teams I am told

Wonder if Stan is one.

- ikeane

I don't think Hoffman helps our defense or PK, but at least he's on an expiring contract.

Maybe --- the surname seems like a really simple phonetically German surname.

I read it as sounding as 'Dock' to 'Dosh' the difference being more of a dialect thing - like the German word for I ( being ich ... ) and how much attention one pays to Rammstein lyrics.

My own surname is pretty much the same (apart from a silent h after a t).

Mind you I think Toews is probably actually Töws -as the oe thing is usually an anglicization of the umlauted o. It also explains the w being pronounced as a v sound.

It's early down here ... still dark ... no coffee...

We need to save this stuff for August when there is zero news to complain about.

Only signed for another season, you'd hope he would come at rental price. But why would Florida move him now? TDL price might be higher and/or he'll be useful if they think they're pushing for the playoffs.

Florida making room for Panarin?

Only 1 year left at 5.2M, good offense but probably not very good defensively. (L_B_R you can confirm if you care to). Probably not what the Hawks have in mind for a 1 year defense first, PK forward.

I would still offer sheet Meier for 5M and bow to many of you and agree we can keep Saad, at least until the TDL or next summer. By offer sheeting Meier, Hawks can lock in another young forward for 4 years at a reasonable cost.

Will he be good? Yea maybe, but so could any of the 3-9s. But none are sure things that's for sure. The closest thing to sure things were 1 and 2 and even those two are not suggested to be "generational" talent.
- kwolf68

Ok, only way to get final resolution on this is to have a 'Jousting' contest on skates. Dach one side, Hughes other, sticks sharpened to a point, let them charge each other, best (biggest/baddest) guy is better.

but seriously, are #1 and #2 both sure things, more than some of the potential #3-9? Yes per the pre-draft analysis, but some of their (at least short term) future NHL success could end up being related to the specific team, specific coaching and style of play, all of which can contribute or hold back a players skill set.
Dach does seem to fit the Hawks short-medium term needs more than the other top 5 picks would, so he could be setup for (at least slightly) better success than other early draft picks.

Ahh here it is.....I would highly suggest you NOT follow him. He tweeted last summer 100% certainty Tavares was staying in long island literally a minute after he signed in Toronto and it was broken by a legit BLUE CHECK mark guy......hes' PURE garbage.

28 pages of hate for Sikura and what have you......

--Prospects.....they are what they are...just that. Sikura had a LOT of chances, showed some speed, was noticeable but didn't finish. Snake bitten? Lake of finish at the NHL level? No clue.....but worth another look.

--Saad/AA...horse has been beaten to death here. Same with Murphy.

--Revisiting old trades.....The Hammer trade is the one I will never understand. Panarin? Fine. Hammer? Fact Bowman had to go out and get 2 defensive defensemen tells me he's realized that error and is correcting it.

Yes, Im a fan of shots blocked because guys in lanes who block shots eliminate shots that get to the goalie and allow a quick transition for the offense. Plus, if you watch playoff hockey, clogging shooting lanes has been the norm, is the norm, and will continue to be the norm.

I forget the window of time a team has to match an offer sheet, but that also could be delaying the trade market as teams are exploring multiple options as they should be.

Someone help me to understand that Dach's skating is better than Strome's becaus I'm pretty sure that while Strome can be a very good 2C - I can't see him ever being a legit 1C.
- EbonyRaptor

I will field this one. He is an above average, and this idea he isn't is some how tied to his length and size.
Big guys simply tend to look less rushed, lumbering when the aren't if the are really fine skaters
In Dach's game, there is a smooth pedal, can make sharp cuts, and I think that differentiates him from Strome, but there is more...
Those controlled entry related % stats that L_B_R contributed and the incredible back check and take away % s tie to two things.
Offensively when you watch him he has a stutter step that is rare in huge guys and it confuses, causes misreads and is a part of him being able to gain the zone.
The smaller good stick guys have it and they get the responsibility to have the puck on most entires, not the Strome's.
So much is about maintaining the possessions while in forward progress,( I said it in that last podcast with JJ and Jeff, and I got lost in my words when trying to say Vlasic is ahead of Mattais Samuelson in his ability to move and maintain), but it a big part of Dcah's ability, he seems like a swooper because he can glide so well but he has that high end skating ability you see in the guys who go on and be dominant AS big men.
Strome skates fine, and I don't object to his stop/starts like I hear folks here commenting on, but he is still big man center figuring out the ice, and looking for targets for the puck, as opposed to pivoting, opening space most plays.
It will interesting to see how well Dach plays in the fall.
I think if things look easy, and he makes it easy with the guy around him, they may have a tough decision. But you err on the side of caution if there is any inkling he his in over hs head.

is it prounouced "Dock" or "Dak" or "Datch"? I'm excited for him, like has been said, his edgework combined with hands/puck skill, vision/playmaking, and sheer size for puck protection....

so many pages, I didn’t scan all of them, so if this was linked already, my bad

Laz got Q to open up about the firing (at least as open as a Q can be) and a wide range of topics

https://theathletic.com/1...and-that-famous-shot-ski/

Q: I know you don’t want to wade too deeply into this, but I think it’s fairly well known by now that there was always at least some tension between you and Stan. You had different visions at times, which can be healthy and constructive. But that 2017 offseason, after the Predators series, when (assistant coach Mike) Kitchen got fired, and Panarin and (Niklas) Hjalmarsson were traded — did you take those personally?

A: Well, personally or not, it was definitely — I don’t want to talk too much about it, I’ve got a lot of respect for both sides and the decisions that were made. But I was not happy with losing Kitch. And we had a good rapport and a lot of success with Hammer. And knowing the Bread Man’s a special guy. But everybody has to make decisions nowadays, and coaches are getting fired on the staff but the head coach is still there. That’s more in play than it’s been in the past. That was hard, but that’s part of the business, I guess.

Yeah Same here I am really excited to see what he brings to this team. I don't understand why everyone is moaning and groaning about him. We finally have someone who has size and skill who has been compared to several good NHL players. He would be someone that most of us would covet whether it was via trade or free agency who has size and skill unlike some of the so called Smurfs that we have on this team that everyone continues to moan and groan about. Let's give him a chance to see what he does everyone and the so-called experts were saying not to draft Kane because of his size and look how that turned out he's one of the best players in the NHL at this time.

I think Stan did a great job picking Dach. I watched the press conference Monday and hi was impressed at how he carried himself and his answers to questions. He left a great impression and it felt like he was going to do whatever is needed and takes to earn a spot on the team.
