The Sharks didn't offer sheet Niemi. The Hawks took him to arbitration and Niemi was awarded a much higher contract that forced the Hawks to walk away. - gramps
I stand corrected. But payback for offer sheeting Hammer wouldn't hurt my feelings |

Yes, I can say unequivocally - you are the lone human to hear "datch". |

Anyone get a chance to read this Chris Kuc interview with SB?
https://www.nhl.com/black...building-pt-1/c-308090586
I have new respect for JC for his interview questions he asked for the new hire for assistant. Also liked what SB had to say about Seabs. - gifman
Is he saying the guys Seabs was paired with stink? I mean a lot of great Dmen especially towards the tail end of their careers get paired with younger kids to help them along and it works out fine. Yes he played better with Murphy but maybe it's Murphy picking a finished Brent Seabrook up? |

The moral of the story is Seabrook will be paired with a legit experienced d-man in the upcoming season which should make criticism of his $6.8M cap hit melt away. Or something like that. |

My take on it is, in order to get the most out of Seabs is to pair him with one of, de Haan, Murphy or Maatta. This makes him more effective. Maybe he’s not the type of player to play and guide youth. |

Wonder if Stan is one.

You can go back even further when Seabrook was paired with Svedburg...or any otherAHL Dman the last 4-5years. It takes its toll |

If he truly believes this about Seabs, its concerning. Playing w/kids regardless
of ability is hard to do while your backside is on the ice. As GM you have to know
the talent level of your players and w/Seabs he's wrong.
It's a shame Seabs career is ending like this, I wanted so bad for him to go out
like the warrior he once was. Not the greatest at anything but he had "it"
in spades. |

Seabrook spent a fair amount of time with Manning and Forsling last year. I'm not saying #7 was a world beater or up to his standard, and after the first couple of weeks (other than when he was paired with Keith) his performance often did not really pass the eye test.
But Manning and Forsling were dreadful last year in their own end. I think there is at least some merit to what Stanbo is saying. Maybe also some wishful thinking, but it is certainly worth a shot. |

OK - goofy question time.
Carolina bought out Marleau and since Marleau was on a 35+ contract with only 1 year remaining - Carolina has Marleau's $6.25M cap hit on their books for 2019/20.
But what would happen if for some strange reason Carolina changed their mind and decided they wanted Marleau to play for them? Would they be able to erase the buyout as if it didn't happen or would they need to sign him to a new contract - in effect making them pay the $6.25M PLUS the amount of the new contract?
Idle inquiring mind would like to know. |

They can't resign him at all - a team isn't allowed to resign a player they bought out for a season. It's why the Caps traded Orpik to Colorado so they could buy him out and then resigned him. |

If we are looking at this honestly, pretty much all of our D were dreadful last year in their own end for a good portion of the year.

Maybe --- the surname seems like a really simple phonetically German surname.
I read it as sounding as 'Dock' to 'Dosh' the difference being more of a dialect thing - like the German word for I ( being ich ... ) and how much attention one pays to Rammstein lyrics.
My own surname is pretty much the same (apart from a silent h after a t).
Mind you I think Toews is probably actually Töws -as the oe thing is usually an anglicization of the umlauted o. It also explains the w being pronounced as a v sound.
It's early down here ... still dark ... no coffee...

Because if they sign both Bob and Panarin, for about $19mil AAV, that would give then 16 contracts and a cap hit of $75 Mil.
