And going into last season, would you of considered Barbashev and Sundqvist being nhl players let alone effective 4th liners? Or that Zach Sanford as a rookie would force Alex Steen to a 4th line? So maybe Kubalik replaces Kahun's scoring, maybe Sikura does take the next step, maybe Brandon Hagel makes it and shows the scoring touch he had as an over age junior ? As far as last year's offseason, I just wish Bowman and the Hawks would of been honest and say it was a reload season.
Firing Q and the offseason moves they made proved that. Then Stan evaluated and through his trades so far has shown he has identified the weaknesses and tried to address them. Do I think they are a Stanley Cup contender? no. Do I think they are improved and can make the playoffs? yes. that is why they play the season, we will find out. - LAHawk
Of course my view is because I am out here in LA. Compared to the Kings and Ducks, the Hawks look like world beaters |

Getting paid or getting traded - Return of the Roar
I vote for the former. |

Wow, the Stars traded Pitlick for Hartman the other day, and did not give him an offer. That was a total salary dump. Anyone want Hartman back, probably on the cheap? |

Babcock wanted the Leafs to get more grit, his salary will fit in with what Toronto can do.

Would give the Hawks plenty of extra chances to practice their Penalty Kill! |

Keith is fine. He is still a top 4 dman and at 5.35M that is not an anchor. Seabrook on the other hand... - tyweb69
Upcoming private conversation in McDonough's office, with Bowman and Seabrook....
SB: "Brent, you've been a great player for us, thx for helping chicago for so many years!"
McD: "Yeah, wondering if you could help us again... just rip up that contract that guarantees that we pay you over 20 million dollars, so we don't own anything to you anymore!"
BS: {internally thinking} "I know my initials are BS, but what's this kind of BS they are trying to pull over me??" |

Well you dont pay a guy 6mil to simply hustle.
Points/goals kind of matter when you're the 3rd highest paid forward and 4th highest paid player on the team - PatShart
Well, Saad is the 4th most productive forward on the team and one of the above is still year away from being able to be mad paid so he falls right into his TOI. So what is your point? Saad is a 50-ish point player on the regular who is also good for 20 goals, drives possession, plays extremely well defensively and in all situations. He's worth the price tag.
The suggestion that Copp somehow would make him redundant which is just objective incorrect on pretty much every level. |

This will be waived.
Do you think Gary Bettman is going to fool around with the Italian owners of these 2 teams - the Aquilinis or Vinny Viola? Those guys have friends that will fit him with cement shoes quickly. |

Carolina is expected to buy out Marleau and make him a UFA. He's 39, but he still scored 16 goals last year. He hasn't missed a game since 2013, so he has been healthy. Would he be a better 1 year offer player than Perry? - biskit67
He cannot be bought 35+ age rule carolina eats the whole contract from what i understand but could be wrong. |

They can buy him out - it just doesn't impact the cap hit to the team. Buying him out will free up a roster spot and allow him to sign a different contract with another team. |

He will be an UFA in 5 days if they don't sign him. I don't think he's getting traded. - Larmer
Why wouldn't they qualify him? |

Massive Recapture Penalty coming for the Canucks? - RickJ
Is this the first of those "Hossa-type" contracts to incur a Recapture Penalty for its original team? |
