As badass as a top 6 that has the potential of being, our defense is still a wasteland. I expect it to be fixed as well as improved under Ralph, but we're working with a lot of guys who are just... soul sucking. If I was the Blues, the Flyers, a playoff team with a great pool of prospects, I'd unload those 1sts without question.

I just have trouble with the bring in talent at any cost. I want the Sabres to be good so bad. But if one single guy can't turn the franchise around (he can't on his own) then we're sitting here with our thumbs in our ass asking each other why we still suck, and don't get another top tier talent for the next 4 years.

Imagine if we sent an offer sheet to, I dunno, let's say Claude Giroux in 2015. We'd have Claude on a 9 some million contract, but we don't have Dahlin, Nylander(lol), Mittelstadt or Cozens. This defense would be even more of a joke and a hopeless pile of poop without Dahlin. But hey, at least we have 2 good centers.

Marleau is still playing and has NTC. He was impossible to move and they needed cap. Clarkson is not the same situation.

Not to mention they could just put Clarkson on LTIR when the season starts. That would put them under the cap for the year. 475k to spare.

They need to make a move, but their hand isnt forced.

We should have dished a player to them for Haula. He was exactly what this team needed at center.

I agree with this but I see Perry as another Pavelski -meaning Perry wants to be with a serious contender. Unfortunately we are 2 goalies, 4 forwards and 2 defencemen away from being a serious contender.

Think of it like this, if you will:

We had 2 1sts this year, so if you gave up 4 for point, he's the equivalent of getting something for 1 of those firsts. So it's like having 3 firsts in 5 years. Idk if any of that math makes sense

If I am making a trade in fantasy before I pull the trigger I at least circle back to some of the other GMs I had conversations with about said player I am trading

The Pens are about to lose a kid they drafted in the 2nd round in 2017 because he was having Crosby like concussion issues.

Kid had a pretty decent ceiling. But he barely played the last year and a half. They paid to get his head right, he went to the same Dr they sent Crosby too.

Looks like his hockey career is back on track but he becomes a Free Agent on July 1st because they haven't signed him and he's 2 years post draft.

I am sure they would love an extra 2 years to hold his rights...
