thanks for the information but no one can blame him

I'm sure Evander put in a good word somewhere along the lines of:

"Listen, Pavs, Imma shoot it to you straight. Buffalo. Love the city. Love the people. Loved it. The Pegulas? Don't even think twice about blowing them off if they call. They run that team like a bunch of Beverly Hillbillies and the sad thing is, that's pretty much what they are."

We aren't close enough to the playoffs let alone the cup.

I guess the question is: is he a better option than Okposo, Pominville (I assume he'd come back in a heartbeat) and Nylander? I'd see him closer to 40 or 45 points because of a larger role and perhaps some sporadic PP2 time. But point taken. He's not great by any means. Idk if it's worth it, but that's the type of move i'd expect, if something were to happen in FA
- jcragcrumple

He is not a better option than any of them.

I already told you fam, Okposo is scoring 25 goals this year.

I think zuc and Nyquist can be ruled out. Donskoi makes a good amount of sense to me. He'll be somewhat cheaper than the others and he adds speed and he does nearly all of his scoring 5-on-5. It makes sense that Botterill's name is attached to him, especially considering he's a RW. Doesn't mean the sabres will get him, but i'm guessing he's the apple of Botterill's eye, as the reports suggest
- jcragcrumple

Has Donskoi been attached to the Sabres on twitter? I haven't heard any UFA's having interest thus far.

That's a really nice way to put it.

I translate it as:

We have meddling, clueless owners who turned a 5-year rebuild into a 10-year rebuild and still can't seem to get it right.

We literally became the Edmonton Oilers of the East, without the Stanley Cup victories.

He is better. He’s a borderline great defensive winger and has solid goal scoring rates.

Depends on his price.

I still think he gets 4 mil or under because GM’s love pointssssss

I know!

We will acquire a 2C and Okposo will rotate between the 2nd and 3rd line RW position, get PP2 time and score about 10-12 on the PP if he gets meaningful minutes.

In Kreugs we trust.

Either way we look at it, we just aren't there and it can by because of a lot of reasons. Going to be hard to get certain players to come here, money or no money.

so... he is not a great defensive winger?

He is a solid 30-40 point guy for the next few years. He won't hit 20 goals. He would be a decent pk'er. He is a 3rd line player, at best. That's his ceiling.

But yeah, our fanbase (frank)ing covets those types, so let's go get another one.

It kind of works in our favor. There is definitely a crunch on mid-tier NHL players. The decline of the NHL middle class is on while the best get more and more. Maybe 3 years, $4 per gets it done. Don't really know. Not sure if it would even be worth it tbh

Every team has players under contract that are 4th line quality or AHL caliber.
We actually have one of the longer lists of players we're not qualifying thus far.

I would kick the tires on a few on this list. Hartman, Verhaege, Granlund, Pouliot (Botts connection).

I totally agree 89. I was just being sarcastic. My feeling on Pavelski is he'll end up re-signing with SJ.

I thought I read something a few weeks ago that Donskoi scored only 1 goal in his last 39 games last year.

it's hard to convince nhl free agents to come play for the team that was the worst in the nhl for the last 4 months

Gotcha. I like Donskoi but I would think a lot of teams will have interest, which will make it difficult for us. That's why the second tier of UFA's that won't cost much should be the target. Somehow we need to get a 2C.
