Not qualified today by the Canucks was Markus Granlund, who had been traded to Vancouver by the Flames for Hunter Shinkaruk, who was not qualified by Montreal after he had been traded to the Canadiens for Kerby Rychel, who was not qualified today by Calgary.

Damn I remember when all of these guys looked like promising prospects.

"Tkachuk talks likely to handcuff Flames through free agency period"

These are the headlines I like to see. According to the report he is asking anywhere from 7 to 10 M dependent on the term. Yikes!

Hayes really screwed up some of the market with his deal

I was a Rychel fan. Looked like he had the tools to be an effective top six player.

I’d take a swing on Granlund.

I'll take a pass on him. Negative relative rates in almost every significant category.

Oilers have apparently explored the options of Tanev, Carr, Varlamov and even Zucker (rumor) as per Freidman's most recent 31 Thoughts.

Another point of curiosity: San Jose wants to move Aaron Dell. At 1.9mil with solid underlying numbers, Holland could do a lot worse.

Among players not getting QOs, names like Joakim Ryan, Carter Verhaeghe, Ryan Hartman, Sven Andrighetto, Nick Cousins, Stefan Noesen, Rourke Chartier and Ben Hutton all have varying levels of intrigue. Not guaranteed they all make it to UFA status, but the path is set if they want to.

Well Vancouver gets a nice cap penalty with Luongo announcing his retirement today. $3M/yr for the next 3 years.

So that along with signing Myers (~6mil) and resigning Boeser (~7mil) should take them out of the running for any upgrades other than Miller without cap going out in a trade.

Better that move then what EK said about us and Gardiner what a disastrous signing that would be tho I can’t possibly see that happening

It’s been happening for much longer then that and yet every year GMs seem to want to go above and beyond the stupidity of years past

Ray Ferraro said it best... "GMs want to complain about the cap but go out and sign terrible contracts"

Well, at least Gardiner has a pretty substantial positive impact (in the regular season). 7mil would be high, but I'd rather pay Gardiner 7mil than pay Myers 6 or even 5mil.

I usually hate Ferraro but that’s pretty spot on and I’m just hoping that Holland doesn’t do something stupid this off season with a bad signing....got our share as is

Or we could just avoid both....that would be the best course of action but again I can’t see it happening with Holland wanting a top 6 forward

Damn that Shea Weber cap recapture is nuts.... if he retires today it would be 3.3 mil for 9 years but if he retired before his final season when he is 40 Nashville would be on the hook for 24mil for one season. Basically its 24mil split over how many seasons are left on his deal when he retires.

"I’ve mentioned Edmonton three times in a row there on Nyquist, Connolly, and Donskoi. Basically, the Oilers are scouting the market at wing hoping to find one that fits their budget."

- Pierre LeBrun

Well I know who I wouldn’t sign of the three
