I think their will be real opportunities to improve this team shortly. There will be a lot of RFA's who are allowed to walk as well as a lot of salary dumps. If I was Mr Botteril I would jump all over Ben Hutton from Vancouver who they are apparently going to let walk but would instantly improve the blue line situation by having a d who can play good defense

Zubov is a player that is better than most give credit imo. Was very underrated. I suppose the HoF contradicts that, but I'm standing by it.

You're not a GM, but you can say what you'd have in mind.

You going FA or trying to test trade market?

If FA, how much do we have to spend realistically? I know we have room this year, but not a lot of 1 year deals will be drawn up for top6 forwards either...

If trade, what do we have of significant value that we can afford to lose? Risto? Anything else? What's Risto worth you think? Based on what Subban got, what's a realistic return for Risto? By losing him do we just open up a RHD hole?

Not looking for answers to all or anything, just curious what you think a competent GM would do. I fully expect Botts will make multiple moves/signings.

Is Risto there? Montour? Bogo? None of those make sense. The d is completely unbalanced. We don't have a capable defensive defenseman. So someone has to go there.

Up front, it's looking like Erod at 2b center, which is not good enough.

So who/what to trade?

Risto, next year's 1st or any pick, the first the year after that, McCabe, Nylander, Samuelsson, Asplund, idk anything.

I can get behind the Dahlin partner issue. We found Jack his scoring winger, next up our franchise defenseman. I get that completely.

So swap Risto for a more defensively sounds RHD. Flip McCabe for Vesey. Sign Marcus Johansson. We're good?

The only issue I have in the plan is trading next year's 1st. We could very well be picking top5. If we are, you don't want to be in Ottawa's situation watching Byram go to Colorado...
