OK seriously.... FFS
We offered him $80MM plus another $16MM to $24MM in endorsement money and that isn't enough for a guy coming off his ELC?
Seriously? - .HOHO.
Is this really about Marner trying to make up for not maximizing his bonuses on his ELC? His camp really seems to be d1cking the Leafs around. He says he wants to stay in Toronto but his actions say the opposite. At some point the posturing will end and both sides will get a deal done. But even after he signs with the Leafs will you Leaf fans forgive and forget?
Or will you still have a bitter taste in your mouth? I know when Sergei Fedorov d1cked the Red Wings around over 20 years ago, many Red Wings fans never forgave him. He was one of my favourite all time Red Wings so it never bothered me. But he pi$$ed off alot of Red Wings fans. Sergei also had a father who played an important role in his son's career. |

If Leafs are at 8x10 that means they're probably also at 6x9'ish. And if MM is at 6 x 10 then this is close and getting done this week/weekend.
The Law sticks by his 6 x 9.5 ....

Difference is, Crosby / Malkin and Toews / Kane won Cups and stayed. If the Leafs don't, all bets are off, especially with Matthews.
I think some teams don't give a poop about their 1st round picks for the next 4/5 years if it means adding Marner. Four 25th overall picks for Marner? You're winning that trade. And if you're like Nashville, you might win the Cup too so it'll be worth it by the end of those 5 years. - JohnFergusonJr
That's not far off the thinking that led to Boston getting Seguin and Hamilton for Kessel.
"2 10 - 15th picks for Kessel? You do that all day long!"

Paul marner has already made himself a recognizable douche
But idk, I think Leaf fans would easily forget BUT if things don’t go well for the Leafs he may be the first to go for a change. |

Wait what? Didn't realize Nashvile Predators were 2 separate teams. - floater_willy
It's a way they avoid compensation.
Nashville offers him $4.2 million per year. 2nd round pick as compensation.
The Predators offer him $6.2 million per year. 1st and 3rd as compensation.
Marner signs both offers.
!st, 2nd and 3rd for Marner.
Good deal by Nashville and the Predators. |

I was just using them as an example but now I'm legitimately a little afraid.
- JohnFergusonJr
No need to be afraid, the Preds giving up 4 firsts to the Leafs would be very nice. Then Dubas could make a strong offer to the Habs for Weber and play a little game.
Marner plus Josi plus 4 2nd's or Weber gets introduced to Hossa's jock strap. |

No one else took a hit, why should he? Why should he stay for 8 when Matthews gets to max out his money after 5? They are all overpaid. |

If you're the Leafs it would be armageddon all over again if you had to manage Nylander, Matthews and Marner all coming off their contracts at the same time. Not to mention Zaitsev! - Monkeypunk
I look at it totally differently. In FAgency guys are worth what they can get. It is what it is. Having them all come off the books at the same time is also good because it gives them more options in who to re-sign and where to allocate their cap/$$.
The NBA is out in front of this. Teams bend over backwards to free up space in a given year so that they can plan their spending.
The NHL is a few years behind but heading the same way ...shorter deals for younger stars. And teams not being so afraid of having cap space. |

Kind of but different. Nashville is in a waaaayyyy better spot than the Leafs were when they acquired Kessel. Nashville is pretty much a lock to be giving up late 1st round picks for the next five years. |

Yes. It would have been so much easier of they had dealt with him like AM and just given him what he wanted right off the bat. Then no one would have to talk about what a Richard he is. |

Respectfully disagree. Preds already showing signs of decline, Rinne not what he was, gave away PK for a pack of smokes, Josi a UFA next year. It doesn't take long for a good run to end.

Ya I’m thinking term is sticking point.
Leafs want 3 year or 6 year.
Marner wants 4 or 5 year.
Marner doesn’t want 8 because it would probably be a bargain come 5-8 years.
And leafs don’t want to walk him to ufa at 4 and 5. |
