Not Carolina.
Nashville.
They could.
If they so wished.
Which they might not. - JohnFergusonJr
Marner and Matthews like Kane and Toews and Malkin and Crosby seem to be zero'd in on 5 year deals to maximize their third contracts into their mid-30's.
I think teams think twice about giving up 4 1st rounders for only 5 guaranteed years of MM.
And if they go 5 x 10.5 ....I think the Leafs match. Plus I doubt he even considers jumping ship for 500k per year over 5 years. He's got a pretty good thing going here. |

I’m going to be careful not throw out specific teams, mostly because I’m not sure if it’s ture. It was thrown at me by an agent and an NHL executive today that Nashville and the Predators are 2 of the multiple teams that have reached out to Marner. - Tumbleweed

I wonder if Nucks fans will chirp when the Leafs pay less for Marner than Myers+Loungo - Santo_44

He goes for 10.5/5 cuz he gets to UFA in his first year eligible and breaks the bridge contract idea in half. |

Zeitsev would be fine as a 6-7 on a championship team. 4 million is too much for that. - aminnes
No one is saying he's a solution, but if it costs you assets to offload him, then you keep him and try to build his value. He is good enough that with the right handling he can be appealing.
If, as Wedgie suggests, after his bonus is paid out and teams strike out in the UFA market, someone comes knocking for him and wants to pay for him in a hockey trade then we should consider it.
As it is, his cap hit is better gone or replaced by someone better, you're right - but I don't think we should give anything up to get rid of him. |

I hate dredger. That guy is such a phoney tool, always taking local reporters articles and presenting the info as if he thought of it or found out the details. |

Hurricanes offer 12x7 - AdamFrench
Marner laughs them away. 5 x 10 from Leafs would be better for him long term. In 2024 he'll be making more than 12 per year. |

The latest is that the Leafs offered 10x8. Mitch likes the dollar but wants 6 years at 10 million. I'm guessing if they want him for 8 he wants 10.5-11 per. I don't mind 10x6. He won't be offer sheeted. - aminnes
OK seriously.... FFS
We offered him $80MM plus another $16MM to $24MM in endorsement money and that isn't enough for a guy coming off his ELC?
Seriously? |

I think that's his best case scenario. Get his short term and just under the max comp. But Leafs can match and trade his ass whenever and WHEREVER they are able.
He knows that so he's not going to (frank) around over a couple hundred thousand. If Leafs had 5 years and 9.5 on the table I think this would be over. I think the battle is the Leafs trying to get the 6th year. |

If you're the Leafs it would be armageddon all over again if you had to manage Nylander, Matthews and Marner all coming off their contracts at the same time. Not to mention Zaitsev! |

Difference is, Crosby / Malkin and Toews / Kane won Cups and stayed. If the Leafs don't, all bets are off, especially with Matthews.
I think some teams don't give a poop about their 1st round picks for the next 4/5 years if it means adding Marner. Four 25th overall picks for Marner? You're winning that trade. And if you're like Nashville, you might win the Cup too so it'll be worth it by the end of those 5 years. |
