Rantanen signs for a friendly 8mil. Colorado offer sheets Point for 10.5. Signs Panarin for 11mil.

What are you trying to build the Lightning of the West?

I was thinking the same. I guess if you're looking for teams that could force their way into the conversation, then who do you think? Edmonton always has a shot just due to McDavid.

Edmonton is such a mess at every position except top 3 forwards....Despite having McDavid, I don't see them making the playoffs.

Then who challenges the teams that made it this year? You'll notice it's very tough.

I mentionned how I think the Canucks could surprise or at least fight for a playoffs spot (it's a long shot though).

I could see the Blackhawks bouncing back. They had a really strong 2nd half and if Strome keeps playing the way he has, it gives them a good forward nucleus.

The goaltending situation is worrysome but they might do it!

Aside from these 2 though.... I don't see it happening.

Agreed - definitely a tough decision though.

Playing with the run away Hart and Art Ross winner makes it a little closer imo.

This.

And I feel like Marner has that ability to "step up" in big games. You need to put some value on that.

Haven't seen that from Point yet. Despite an interesting run 2 years ago.

Yes, let's get McDavid, Crosby and McKinnon in addition - who needs wingers and d-men?

No-compete-Nylander can go; rather keep Marner .
Nota bene: 35 out of 92 of Point's points were on the PP - 57 even strength points.
Marner had 69 even strength points (and 21 on the PP).

With a better powerplay next season (Leafs should add Anders Lee or another guy that can play like JVR on the PP) Marner will compete with McDavid and Matthews for most points in league.

Tavares is no chump. I prefer his two way play and he's a goal scoring center. Like I said, it's very tough though.

Has Marner been offersheeted yet, lets just get this over with
- Archaic

I bet a few teams talk to Marner, but I am really wondering whether any of the high end guys gets offer-sheeted. Will any of those teams offer more than what the Leafs are offering? Will they offer enough that they know the Leafs won't/can't match?

I wonder if ultimately the GMs don't want to stir the pot that seriously. I think they all know the salary escalation of the younger players is going to be a problem.

It was hypothetical and had nothing to do with the Leafs. It was a player vs. player question.

I think its truly doubtful that anyone offer sheets. Most GMs know its not going to do anything besides screw over the teams. They likely match, and it will just raise the ceiling for salaries. On top of that, the GM wont deal with them, and they could be a target of retaliation in the future.

I just dont see it.

I should've clarified. Assume you're starting a new team and either of those is available for your first pick.
