NYI would also be thinking of Barzal coming down the pipe and possibly getting sheeted. Even if they sheeted Marner and Barzal wasn’t sheeted, what is Barzal’s asking when he sees Marner making $14M per? - As_I_See_It
That's alot of sheeting. |

I think they do care, obviously.
It's not impossible. Nashville is another team with many moving parts. They moved PK to get room for Josi. If they want to keep Granlund and Smith and Watson . . . they can't really be players.
The point isn't that someone won't, the point is that you need to know your team is there now, and you're ready now to contend for 4 years.
It's a bigger roll of the dice than when Burke acquired Kessel, but you are getting a better player for your gamble. - Monkeypunk
At this point, I really think they don't. Nashville has it's window of opportunity and 25th overall picks aren't going to do poop for them.
By comparison, the Leafs gave up two late 1st round picks for Muzzin and to dump Marleau. Two more of those gets you Marner? (frank) yeah, you do that.
And if they have to dump secondary players, I don't think they'd care, just like the Leafs shouldn't care about dumping the Browns and Zaitsevs to make space for the players that actually matter. |

So the guy who pissed Marner off in the first place by not giving him his Schedule 'B' bonuses is the guy he wants to sign with? It better be a mind-bogglingly big offer, I would think.
I guess we'll see. - Monkeypunk
If you're not good enough to be in the nhl right out of the draft, you don't deserve full bonus potential. |

It matters if we keep giving up picks to “SWEETEN” teams taking them. Getting tired of Kyle having his lunch money stolen and saying it’s ok. |

That's horrible logic because Marner could have easily played for the Leafs in 2015/2016. It was just a waste of a year on his ELC and the Leafs were horrendous. |

Why?
There might not be enough money for Stralman but if they can find it, he would be a welcomed addition to the Leafs lineup.
He's a #4 D at this point and knowing the Leafs they'll play him like Hainsey but I'd rather have Stralman on the cheap than nobody at this point. - JohnFergusonJr
Not sure if he was nursing an injury, but his game was terrible last year according to the tampa blogger and all those fancy stats.
On another note, any or the guys around the nhl not tendered qualifying offers that you think we should be interested in? Sportsforecaster lays them all out for you under their transactions page. |

Brown and Zaitsev are just useful enough that the Leafs can dump them for draft picks and/or prospects. Not a Marleau situation. |

I'm sorry? Are you suggesting that all ELC player contracts should offer full Schedule A & B bonuses?
On one level, I'm not adverse to that, on another, I more feel that bonuses should be applicable based on draft position. The only reason is to help team's control their performance bonus expectation. If Schedule B were automatically applicable for all 1-10 picks, for instance, it would work better than fighting for it and having a situation where one player receives them and another doesn't . . . . being a top 5 draft pick in the NHL, shouldn't be frustrating!

He had a real terrible camp that year, which is why everyone made fun of max when he predicted marner would be a top line player within the year. And yes dude, you were among them. So was I. Dozzer was the worst
It's the one thing max was right about in his life. |

He was banged up pretty bad last year but he's still only 32 so he's got more gas left in the tank than say Hainsey or Phaneuf (never had much to begin with).
I saw the Jets let some guys go but they were LHD and didn't seem all that useful to the Leafs outside of maybe a PTO. |

Stralman's game has deteriorated. - gergeswillems
That's what I heard.
To the poster you replied to, as for having to add in a trade for manson, nylander etc. Manson had a ridiculously good season 2 years ago. What you saw last year is likely more the norm based on his career numbers in every league hes played. |

Fine, you were in total agreement with max, 100 percent mad marner didn't make the team despite his terrible showing in camp. |

Connor Brown 2.0 but if he plays for 1 million or less, sure.
Anybody the Leafs bring on is going to have to make 1 million or less.
There's going to be a lot of Tyler Ennis' at training camp. |

Ironically, his parents interference didn't allow him to grow up....to this day. |
