Dermott, when ready, is only going to be better. Adding Stralman over Z is better, Muzzin over Gardiner is better, with one REAL #2/3 RHD...our D could not be worse.

Yup - it's not good. I was in no way offering this up as a Stanley cup winner, but what I think may be realistic and marginally better than last year.

The conference still has Ott, Buff, Phil, MTL and NYR so there's competition for the worst D in the East.

If only your mom knew how to do that, this entire conversation wouldn't exist.

It's mathematically impossible to keep all the RFAs and Nylander on the forwards and bring in anyone, let alone Stralman, Manson. Even Hainsey is gone in that scenario. Again, I agree there's lots of crappy D corps. I don't think Leafs have the worst by any stretch. The team is driven by the offence and the D just has to be passable. Let the offence put you in a position to make the playoffs and throughout the year look for opportunities to upgrade the D. See who becomes sellers after Christmas and then see if there is a deal - you'd still have the assets to make that move and the return would likely be better.

What size/type of offer sheet is actually "realistic" or "viable" whereby the contract and picks involved are something that a team could potentially offer and that the Leafs couldn't/wouldn't match?
