carolina would still have to payout marleau's buyout and have it on the cap for 2 seasons. hypothetically speaking if the same deal was made for horton instead of marleau, carolina could just let horton's contract rot for a season and be done with it.

As Marleau is a 35+ contract, the actual dollars paid out to Marleau would be 2/3rds of the contract spread out over the next two years, but the cap hit would be exactly the same as if he plays the 2019-20 season.
