Very true.
But no need to worry about that until the end of July.
Alot can change between now and then - Fakepartofme
Agreed. Nothing I’m super concerned about but nothing I’m super excited about either. |

30 minutes ago, you were angry with Dubas for getting rid of Marleau, because the price was too high.
Now you want to get rid of Horton, at any price, when they can just put him in LTIR and the cap hit basically goes away.
Have you been day drinking?
I love day drinking. - Atomic Wedgie
uh dafuq you talking about. there is no ltir in the off season, horton's money is on the cap right now until next season starts and the leafs have to place him on ltir again. even then i don't think they get all his cap space back. marleau is at least playing. |

And in a weird sort of way, the builder category, too.
His defection really forced the issue with the Soviet Union - it was the crack in the dam that started the migration of Soviet players to the NHL.
Yes, it was an inevitability, but I really think Mogilny pushed the timetable up by a couple of years. - Atomic Wedgie
Interesting angle, he did pave the way for Russian hockey players... Mogilny should definitely be in the Hall. |

That's not how it works.
It's a non-issue. - JohnFergusonJr
It makes things a little more difficult. it can be a nuisance, but not necessarily one you trade assets to avoid. It limits your ability to be 10% over the cap during the off season, because you can't put your player on LTIR until the start of the season. It can also have an effect at the trade deadline and with extending/trading for players in season. |

Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

You still haven't answered the bigger question: why do you want to get rid of a guy who we can just roll onto LTIR and not worry about his cap hit?
Why bother giving up assets? - Atomic Wedgie
because in the off season mr. horton's contract counts against the cap. a 5.3 million dollar roadblock, that could be used to sign players instead of hemorrhaging assets to other teams. |
|
|
|
you are asking the wrong questions.
better question: why hasn't dubas sent at couple of draft picks to some team to take on kessel's retained salary? - Tumbleweed
kessel is only 1.2 million |

If they absolutely needed to, they could put him on LTIR right now. Horton is not coming back |

none of it counts against the cap. Once the season starts you can put him on LTIR. you can go 10% above the cap prior to the season. This contract has zero effect on the cap. - lonnyBohonos
it has an affect on the cap in the off season when you can't sign players because 5.3 million is blocked up. |

In this case, I don't think my ability to read is the issue. I think this one has more to do with your inability to understand simple concepts. |

well then i guess i was wrong about the horton contract. nothing to see here.
but that doesn't give dubas a pass for not foreseeing this problem he was going to run into. if he thought jake gardiner was going to help the leafs win a stanley cup this past season maybe he should not be the gm of a nhl team. |
