He came to Buffalo as a 20 y/o and played 16 years in the NHL, but yeah I guess his best years were as a 17-19 y/o playing for Moscow. Must have missed his 76 goals in 77 games in '92-'93.

That same year, Selanne posted 76 goals as a rookie. Now you’ll be hard pressed to find more than a couple of guys getting to 40 in a season. I miss the days before the trap....it hasn’t been the same since.

There was a point in JR’s, Vinny’s, and Mogilny’s careers where they were elite. Was Alfie ever elite?

I don’t mean that rudely. I like Alfie. He was a great player over a long period of time. He compiled some impressive numbers, and was a leader.

But even though he’s had a hell of a career, I like it when a HOF inductee can point to a period that they were elite.

I think the other three have that. I just dunno about Alfie. Same with Elias, for that matter. I suppose the former will eventually get in regardless.

Zubov, Mogilny, Carbonneau, and Turgeon should have been the class.

Bias aside, I’d put alfredsson in ahead of all 4 of them.....equal or better NHLer, and more success internationally

Thanks for putting your bias aside. Appreciated

Alfie is borderline. Always good, never great

If alfredsson wasn’t great than neither was roenick or lecavalier. Career numbers are almost the same, career highs are almost identical. Alfredsson deserves to be in as much as them.

I blame the Red Wings. They were swept in the SCF in '95 by NJ. Everyone started to play a version of the Devils "trap hockey" and hockey was never the same. Had the Red Wings beat NJ in 1995 then teams would've emulated the Red Wings. High skill, speed, puck possession, up tempo quick passing. But it never happened. Blame the Red Wings.

The Wings has their own version of the trap called the Left Wing Lock if I remember correctly.

Scotty Bowman used the Left Wing Lock in the 70s with the Habs to great success. He brought it with him to Detroit. NJ used the neutral zone trap which was basically invented by Roger Neilson and perfected by Devils head coach Jacques Lemaire who coincidentally was a key player for Bowman's Habs.

Elias gets so little respect that people take cups away from him.

I’m not sure if he’ll get the nod for the Hall but he’ll always be a legend to any NJ fan.

"Vincent LeCavalier...
He won a Cup with Tampa, was dominant for the Lightning and a force for team Canada...but he didn't want to play in Montreal...and that surely and unfairly hurt him."

because he did not want to play for the habs, he may not be a hall of famer

that's gold

Could be the worst players class ever. Nedomansky over JR!!?? or Turgeon? Fleury?
Heck put Damphousse or Butch Goring in ahead of that Czech.. their impacts were greater in the best league in the world.
Go away with Nedomansky.
