Could they move on from Voracek to create space? Could Voracek's play decline?

Could they move van Reimsdyk? Could his play decline and he become a 7 million dollar role player?

There are if's everywhere.

Everyone talks about hayes' decline but we just assume everything will be fine with our other high priced guys?

Next year could be a year you move a big salary to reshape some of your top 9 if the teams fails to live up to expectations.

- J35Bacher

I was on the move voracek train last year. I'd hope they move him after this season to start bringing in the young fwds to replace him and give us more cap

Provorov/Subban
Sanheim/Ghost
Hagg/Myers

Looks mighty sexy to me.

Will the addition of Hayes reduce Giroux's time on the PK?

That would be a valuable added service.

Of course. They want somebody who's RH, who's a vet, and can soak a ton of minutes alongside Provorov? Subban is perfect.
- Tomahawk

Does it give you any pause that Nashville decided to trade him? It was obviously partly a cap move but you just don't trade a legitimate first pair two way defenseman because of the cap. You find some other way.

Not when you factor in value. We are going to get hosed on a Ghost trade. Even if he brings back a better player than Hagg would.

We didn't need Braun. It was a dumb trade and its going to cost us a good young defenseman for one season of an old guy who isn't in the long term plans of the team.

- MBFlyerfan

We disagree. They needed 2 vet guys to round out the top 4. Give the other 3 some help that the prior GM refused to do. Don't you think maybe that is also why they may have regressed a little? They had no support or help. The throw into the fire approached has not worked. This will also allow Myers to slot on the 3rd pair to ease him into it as well.

It isn't going to cost you anything as one will be moved for other parts. If you cant replace a Hagg or worried about losing him then your team isn't that good to begin with.

Do Braun and Niskanen fit? We don't know, stop asking about fit.
- ClaudeFather

I will ask whatever I want.

Is it a better fit?

Who knows really what rumors are true. I was concerned about rumors with his back.

He definitely will. We can not have another season of overplaying Giroux like last year. He isnt young anymore.

With the forward depth we have in the system, I think our most pressing need is finding a goalie and then re-signing our remaining RFAs. I'd rather find an established winger for the bottom 6 and let our guys play together in AHL.

G, Coots, TK
JvR, Hayes, Jake
Lindblom, Patrick, X
Raffl, Laughton, Pitlick

Provy, Niskanen
Sanheim, Braun
Ghost, Myers
Hagg, Morin

Hart
X

100% right here. a think there are several options for both positions, and both can be cheap as well. you have to think about the makeup of the top 9 too, can we get a guy who can initially slot was a 3RW but also can be counted on for some minutes in a game in the event of a shake up thats needed, or just an injury. Also, it would be nice for a player that can maybe occupy heavier minutes for a 10-15 game stretch in case of short term injuries. Obviously thats in a perfect world, but some players I would like to see, even with our cap issue, are:

Michael Ferland
Joonas Donskoi
Marcus Johansson
Alex Chiasson
Brandon Tanev

not on the flyers he wouldn't be. He isnt the type of D they need right now.

He does everything Niskanen does... but a lot better.

Honestly, the amount of rationalization required to convince oneself that PK + cheaper 2c < Niskanen/Braun/Hayes is amazing.

i think some gloss over the idea that the D core from last year wasn't having success, they needed a change, a push forward. Something more than Gudas and AMAC.

Well I know that just being with Giroux has improved the faceoff % of other guys on the team. I assume they work together to improve, so maybe practicing with G and Couts will help.

Plus we've seen many times that Hak and Gordon would put G out there with Couts and have him leave the ice after the faceoff.

What do you mean for where the Flyers are today?
- PLindbergh31

they are not a cup contending team. They have several young D with very good upside. They need a more steadying Dman who are good in their own end. Guys they can learn from.

Subban is a guy you add to get you over that hump imo or if your a legit contending team you him. he doesn't strike me as the mentor type. For what the flyers need I rather have the other 2 guys.

Hayes killed penalties, but he wasn't particularly that great at it.

G is actually a much better PK'er if you look at shot suppression #'s.

So if this the mindset, why did they bring Hayes in?

As opposed to the Cup contending Devils who just acquired him? How does he fit in NJ?

Well in the Jones trade they needed a #1 center. I'd rather have Jones but at least you can see that deal.

Hayes is for 7 years, the window will open.

NJ, needs to put fans in the seats, without winning the lottery twice I am not sure there would be a NJ franchise.

Hughes and PK, help fill the seats and probably help Hall stay
