The post you responded to would suggest that I’m we aware he’s not an offensive defenseman. What’s ridiculous is suggesting that the Sharks goaltender is the single reason why Braun had a bad season but he’s good because he played 20 minutes a game.

Justin Braun had a bad season last season. Something Bill has already pointed out himself. So tell me how Braun alone fixes our defensive lapses coming off a bad season himself?

When did the Philadelphia Flyers get known for great goaltending?

- SuperSchennBros

Alone, he probably doesn't. Add in Niskanen, and the hope is to bring more stability to the young D core. Whether or not that's going to workout, I have no idea.

It would not be unheard of for a 20 year old goaltender to struggle.
- MJL

And it's why the backup goalie may be Fletcher's most important move.

I just disagree that the mandate to Fletcher made him rush anything is all. I think he went into the Hayes situation eyes wide open and fully aware of what the market would bear for a center of his capabilities. I think Nisk/Braun are relatively low risk attempts to solidify the D corps and don't pose any long term downsides for the team.

Lol really?? Jones played 62 games and had a .896 save percentage. That is a putrid number that is worse than majority of backups in the league. Competent goaltending would have made a big difference.

QFE

This really is , IMO, the most important move Fletcher makes.

To me it was the biggest mistake Hexy made and if a second GM doesn't address it then I got nothing.

I think more or less 3 teams from the Atlantic are basically a lock. I think BUF and FLA will be much improved when all is said and done. I think those are the 5 that make it out of that division.

Metro is harder to call, but I think the Caps and Pens will still be in the top-3. Canes I feel like are probably there with them with the way they play a modern game. Isles I'm not bullish on. Devils could surprise. Jackets probably step back a bit. Maybe the Flyers can slip into 4th in that mix. Maybe not, tho.

If we miss playoffs, please burn it to the ground, Keep Hart Meyers Provy and Sanheim and try again.

Would people be ok with Reimer?
- Just5

Depends on what the trade would be. His cap hit is a little rich. In a vacuum yes, he would make a good backup and a guy who could step in and carry the load if Hart faltered or got hurt. He had to do that a lot playing with Luongo.

Brent Burns plus 16

Erik Karlsson plus 6

Brendan Dillion plus 19

Marc-Edouard Vlasec minus 6

Justin Braun minus 14

The other Sharks players didn’t seem to have a huge issue. To be a good defensemen in a good defensive system, the best way to not get scored on is to not allow shots. Blaming goaltending is just lazy. Despite the Blues championship (and I was routing for them hard), the Blues struggled to take shots and took the bulk of the shots in the final. Hockey Night in Canada would have a timer in the corner of the screen show how long it took for the blues to Generate offense.

I’m really hoping your hopes aren’t all in on Justin Braun fixing all our defensive issues.

Probably could have just done Gudas plus the second and third that went to Braun , add a prospect too
- ClaudeFather

No way. Nashville wanted cap space and they didnt tski any salary back to get it. That was their plan.
Subban is overpaid by a lot. He is lot that great of a Dman but he does have the personality this city would love. I love his charity work as well but no way would I take him for 9m for 3 seasons. Big hard pass

And if you watched any of the sharks games you would be blaming the goalie too. Jones was horrible.

How did Guy Carbonneau make the HOF over guys like Roenick, Mogilny, Alfredsson and Elias!? Mogilny and Alfredsson should’ve been locks to make it.

Dave Scott came out of retirement as CFO of Comcast Cable to take over for the retiring Peter Luuko in 2013. He is a bean counter. Based on many things, including the presser immediately after Hextall was fired, he viewed the Flyers as a team that wasn't maximizing it's resources. He had absolutely zero hockey view of the situation. He viewed it as a financial decision, plain and simple.

To say Fletcher has a mandate to maximize the Flyers in the short term in terms of resources and revenues is absolutely true. If Fletcher hadn't agreed to that vision, he wouldn't have gotten the job.
