It was cool to see Patrick Poulin in the crowd as his son was drafted last weekend. Former Hartford Whaler too!

Pitt would get cap space and a 2nd line center...so when they trade Malkin to FLA, they have someone to fill the whole while saving money

Pitt also saves by only paying AA 2 mil since his contract is prorated

It was rough watching the Red Wings look like the Harlem Globetrotters during those years.

Poulin leaves a bad taste for me since Larmer was traded for him.

One of the nicest players the Hawks had in that era was Carney. He would hang out with the fans drinking beer after the games at Cheli's.

Do NOT trade Gustafsson! Do NOT!

This guy is so unappreciated by Hawks fans. I can’t believe it. Will be a future top two defensman.

From the blog itself wanted to say “Thissssssssssssssss”

let's revisit this after the free agency frenzy on July 1st. There is going to be crazy money tossed around for guys like Anton Stralman, Tyler Myers and Jake Gardiner. Then we can all look back and say, hmmm… $4.55M per for de Haan and $4.08M per for Maatta is looking pretty damn good. Trust me.

No way in hell!! He has proven to be a nice PP specialist. He is at best a #5 defenseman on just about every NHL team.

I’ve blocked that period out.

They sent Gilmour and dumont to buffalo for a turd. I just can’t remember the turds name.

Kilger?

Arnason-Calder-bell
Vs
Nylander-Dumont-daze

Or maybe it was Sullivan with 92/17.

- SteveRain

Michal Grosek.

Edit - See several others provided the turd's name.

If Stan looks at an offer sheet I say it HAS to be Tkachuk. Jam with skill.
For UFAs I hope that he gets Bellemere, Tanev, and Connolly

No NHL...on a really bad team maybe. Would be interesting to see who 3-6 would be on that team.

so what's next on the shopping list?

I'm thinking

Tanev in UFA

Also think we pick up another scoring winger because both Kessel and Pavelski have been linked to us.

I like Gus ok but not as a top pairing guy and certainly not a future one for the Hawks. If he is, you'll have a lot more balls in the hopper when determining your pick for the draft lottery.

Joker and Boqvist are likely your future top pair or each anchoring a top pair since they are both RHD.

Saarela was originally a Rangers pick that we were a bit annoyed about that was sent in the deal for Eric Staal

really not sure why he never got a chance with the Hurricanes, definitely could be good pickup

Because he’s gonna want a big raise next year, and it’s silly to pay big bucks to defenseman who can’t play defense.
- Ogilthorpe2

True. But, if the return on him is squat right now. keep him for the time being. Play him on PP and a few sheltered minutes. maybe 7-10 minutes a game as a 6th or 7th D-man. Then shop him at the deadline when teams will pay more. If we are doing better than expected and in the playoff hunt, maybe just keep him and let him walk. I am thinking they won't get much for him anyway....so I don't see the rush in running him outta town. He is miles ahead of any other D-man we have for the PP. Are you all looking for more Keith minutes on the PP so we can curse MORE shots into shin pads???

I heard Chicago had interest in Pavelski, but read he hasn't spoke to Chicago or nothing planned ?

Chicago has roughly 11 million left , you would have to think salaries will be moved out in any deal or if any signings happen.

I expect at minimum AA to be dealt after July 1st. That would give us roughly 15 mil or so to land some more talent.

It would at least partially be a cap dump for the Pens - they only have about $3.9m is cap space and would like to make some moves/signings. Murray and Schultz are due raises in a year too. They'd likely prefer to move Johnson, Gudbranson, Horqvist, and Rust first but some are harder moves and some aren't enough. They also have limited options since Kessel have a 8 team trade list unless he waived his NTC (which he already said no to doing).

Where did the rumor the Hawks were interested in Kessel come from btw?

You've already added some talent with the two dmen. They still need most of that money to use next year to sign 12 and 17.

I could see a depth signing but if there's anything significant added at fwd it will likely come through trade. Still don't see Stan throwing wads of money at guys in FA and hope he doesn't.
