Does anybody here think that Anders Lee is a realistic possibility?? Where do they fit his Cap hit given the raises coming to Debrincat (especially) and Strome. Does StanBo plan on going "budget" next year in Goal and saving $4-5mil with Crawford's contract coming off the books? Does he plan on moving Seabrook? Anisimov?

I just don't see the math working out when you factor in at least $12 mil going to Strome and Cat next summer.....

You have to factor in what the salary cap was at when Toews & Kane signed their deals as opposed to what the cap will be at next season. Because when the cap goes up salaries go up.

You really can't compare a modern contract to one that was signed 4-5 years prior... I mean if Keith didn't sign a 13-year contract there is no doubt in my mind he would be signed right now for $8-10M..

The only way to really compare contracts from 5 years ago (or several seasons back) is to compare what percentage of the cap the contract took up.

They didn't need Tavares and if they didn't sign him Marner would be signed right now - and both Dubas and Shanahan knew this, and that's what makes it insulting. And obviously I'm not even a Leafs fan and what they did rubs me the wrong way --- and the best part is that when Marner is poached the Leafs fans are going to label him as "greedy"...

And they couldn't even get out of the first round...

I'm dying to see how Dubas not only resolves the Marner issue but acquires a couple of defensemen that turn the Leafs from pretenders to contenders. Losing Marleau's cap hit is one huge part of it. Can he find a few more lucky horeshoes?

The Marner shoe has to drop before Dubas knows what he needs to do. No moves from them until Marner's deal is resolved.

Better than being an Ottawa, Arizona, Carolina, etc. who are constantly at the floor and need to take on salary dumps from other teams because they can’t field their own talent worth paying.

It’s a good thing to be in a position where it’s tough to re-sign your own players because that usually means you’ve done a good job putting together a competitive roster.
