Rutherford was apparently willing to trade Kessel for Jason Zucker but Kessel refused to go to the Wild.
Doubt he would turn down a chance to play for the Hawks. Wonder what Stanbo would be willing to give up for him? - RickJ
Strome, perlini, maatta
Elbows doesn't have enough hate for those 3 on Hawks roster and the neighborhood kids on his lawn. Stan must appease him somehow, since he can't off the kids. |

This trade works on many fronts:
1. No roster players or significant prospects were given up for a solid 2nd pairing defensive defenseman
2. In combination with the Maatta Trade the PK should be drastically improved
3. The overall defensive depth is greatly improved
4. De Haan and Maatta are signed for 3 years, this gives the current boatload of defensive prospects time to develop, no need to rush them
In all likelihood there’s more deals to me made and a d-man from last years roster is on the move. There seems to be some debate about Gustafsson or Murphy. For me there is no debate, Gus is sent packing on the bus. I like Gus’ game and I have no issues with him. However, it’s a question of Gus for one year or Murphy for three. Murphy was solid last year so he stays. Plus, Gus is a perfect trade chip for a cash strapped team looking to unload a forward. |

Do you think Phil would be a nice fit depending on what the Hawk's would need to give up? - SoftServe
Unless the deal is Kessel for Seabrook the deal doesn’t work. |

This team doesn’t need a guy like Kessel, it he no problems scoring goals.
It needs two way forwards who are especially good on the forecheck, can play a dump and chase game. |

Only 6m , and in a bad season MF put up 27 goals. I mean hes just as good as all these UFAs and they will make more than 6m right ? - mrpaulish
The Leafs are paying $1.2M of his salary so I'm not sure what his cap hit is. But I would take him in a flash if the trade made sense. Pens need guys on ELC's and draft picks. |

He doesn't really make much sense for the team.
Hawks were 8th in scoring last season. They were 30th in GA.
The focus is clearly on stopping the puck from going in their own net, not putting the puck in their opponents' net. |

Because... - SoftServe
Because... scoring isn’t a problem for this team.
But team defensive play is a problem, big time. And if you want to make that worse - and lose a big chunk of cap space at the same time - put Phil Kessel on this roster. |

The amount of legit NHL talent coupled with high end prospects/former 1st round picks the Hawks have added/drafted over the last few seasons is off the charts:
Strome, DeBrincat, Dach, Gustafsson, Perlini, Caggiula, Sikura, Boqvist, Jokiharju, Maatta, DeHaan, Quenneville, Beaudin, Kubalik, Koekkoek...
And most likely adding another legit forward in the coming weeks as well.
I think this organization is hell bent on competing for another championship in the Toews/Kane/Keith era. They’ve done a wonderful job so far of retooling the supporting cast and restocking the young talent. Bowman slowly redeeming himself for the series of poor moves made after the 2015 Cup. |

Penguins and Blackhawks continue to talk trade surrounding Kessel."
I don't know, but $6,800,000 a year and is UFA 2022-23 season is not bad, especially considering what some of these forwards are going to get on the open market this offseason. - SoftServe

I was "okay" with the trade, even though I liked Forsling. He was consistent, but had flashes. I wish him the best! De Haan is injured? That's great. Maatta was injured too, right? They need to heal quickly & contribute because I'm still on the fence for both trades.
Walleye, we just added a 15th team to your list from today! |

Tyler about De Haan’s injury history
https://www.foxsports.com...n-de-haan-player-injuries
Thoughts? It appears the last one may have been responsible for 3 stints on the DL - gifman
I'm not thrilled about his injury history, but the Hawks would have looked into it extensively. Especially considering he's coming off of another surgery.
What I am thrilled about is how well he played last year. He's a legit top 4 with shutdown ability. |

If De Haan (and Maatta) didn’t have challenges staying healthy they likely wouldn’t be available. |

Move Gus and where does the offense come from on the blueline??
Which defenseman commands the top PP unit?
Much better option is moving Murphy. I’d trade him and AA. Then acquire Pavelski and possibly Tanev too. Then our roster top to bottom would be among the leagues best, especially if Dach is the real deal. |

How about this trade:
Hawks trade Gustafsson, Anisimov, Dahlstrom and a 2020 2nd round pick to Toronto for Nylander and a 2020 4th round pick. |

Depends on what thy give up. It would be a course change to go after Kessel at this point. My concern would be is the fall coming for Phil? He will 32 when the season starts and there have always been questions about his conditioning. The SOB puts up points, tho. |

Hyman or Brown would be solid depth pick-ups. Plus Toronto could use Gustafsson after they lose Gardiner. |
