As bad as last year's offseason was for Stan last year, this year's moves look to be that of a very good GM. Getting players of need, and not losing sight of having space to sign his RFA's for next year.
- LAHawk

His trades have been pretty solid since he unloaded Hossa a year ago or even back when he unloaded Hartman.

Hartman got us a prospect, but also a 1st and 4th which are (Beaudin and Kurashev)
We got the recent pick Saarela for Wingels
The Hossa deal brought us Entwistle and unloaded that contract.
Schmaltz for Perlini/Strome
The Manning trade got us Caggiula
Rutta got us Koekkoek and upgraded a pick from 7th to 5th.
We sent a 5th to get Kubalik
We moved on from Hayden when he wasn't working out.
Now we got two defensively responsibly guys that could be top 4 without giving away any important pieces.

some one posted in the previous blog: a buyout of seabs is an expensive transaction with little cap relief: a total of about 8 mil over the next 4-5 years with full cap hit this year...

not gonna happen...

- bogiedoc

Yep, Cap Friendly has a convenient calculator function to run that scenario. Buying out Seabrook doesn’t make much sense from a cap standpoint.

https://www.capfriendly.com/

Edit: And Seabrook’s name is 3rd on the list of “Popular Buyouts” which is depressing...

Y'all got a good one in de Haan if he can actually recover from this shoulder injury.

Saarela, I have no idea. He's put up numbers in the AHL and some decent ones in Europe, but it's hard to tell if his skating is good enough to actually play at the NHL level or not. He's close, though. Kind of like Chris Terry was, I guess.

Who, incidentally, was traded yet again yesterday... from PHI to DAL.

I watched Dach's press conference and he reminds me a bit of Toews in his demeanor and matuirty. I was saying to D that he could conceivably max out in the 220-230 range and if he is able to keep his current skating and mobility he'll be a nightmare to opposing defenders as he's skating into the offensive zone or camped in front of the net. I just hope Hawk fans aren't disappointed when they find he's unlikely to put opponents through the boards or get into fights. I think he'll use his size to play mor e of a finesse game similar to Toews.
- paulr

He wasn't always 6'4 as he grew a lot recently so he probably plays a smaller more finesse game too and will have to adjust to being that tall in the NHL so will definitely need to add some weight and muscle.

Just because of the timetable given at the time of his injury doesn't mean he will for sure miss some time. He might be progressing ahead of schedule.
- SoftServe

He may be. But he just had the surgery in May. Even if he heals in 4 months, that's September before he can get back on the ice. And that's is ridiculously generous as a quick healer

But Seabrooks payouts for the next 5 years are 7.5M, 5M, 6M, 5M and 4.5M.

Why was Dach wearing skinny Jean capris to throw out the first pitch?

With Stan getting Matta and deHaan, it sounds like Vegas was asking too much for Miller and McNabb, as it does appear Stan and McKrimmon were talking a lot.
- LAHawk

And Stan probably knows pretty much what other gms are offering since he was in Vegas's shoes.

NOTHING!

Why not Bellemare instead of Tanev?

Can actually play C and Wing. Great character guy that wouldn't cost as much. Was 54% on draws last year.

4th line of Caggulia-Kampf-Bellemare has 2 guys that can take/win draws

- PatShart

Was just looking at UFA's and his name pop's out, one year deal at league minimum should do it, as he is 34. Was top PK guy with Vegas, and with Nosek and Reeves, a great energy line. Plus he bangs bodies. Spot play him (60 games or so to let his body rest), and I think he would be a great one year acquisition

If it was an arthroscopic procedure the rebound time could be less than that. Since Mike Terry is an osteo surgeon I suspect they did their due diligence.

You trade for one IMO.

Adam Lowery or Cody Eakin... done.

... it's so easy being a GM. ha.

- Tyler Cameron

Both of those would work... I’d prefer Eakin.

Stan has pulled off some decent trades lately - perhaps he can keep it going.

This to me is the dream deal - Eakin + Clarkson for prospects/picks. VGK gets $9MM+ cap relief and both contracts come off of the Hawks' books for 2020-21.

The question is where are you finding a center who would be willing to take a one year deal that will help. Filpulla was nice value for the Isles and I mentioned him earlier in this blog but me thinks he may want a 2-3 year deal off a strong season.

When Stan mentions only taking on one year deals, you have to consider that comment based on the current roster. If he starts talking about getting guys on longer than one year deals, people will ask about trading current guys because you can't pay everyone and that includes Strome and Cat next year. So me thinks if he's able to trade guys with term like Murphy and/or Ansimov, then that opens up a spot
for Stan to change the makeup of the team and add a player on a longer deal than one year.

- golfbard

Could always sign one of these guys to a 2-3 year deal as long as there are no NTC's/NMC's given out. They then could be moved in a year.

So if he does stick at the NHL level, 3rd pick in the draft, i believe he'll be eligible for a $3 million performance bonus? I believe the team can count it against next year's cap but i prefer they leave a little cap cushion for this and next year.
- BetweenTheDots

All you wanted to know about ELC performance bonuses.

I believe these are things that can be negotiated in the ELC, they’re not automatic.

Hartman

- Return of the Roar

So let's count the teams in the past 1.5 seasons

Blackhawks
Predators
Flyers
Stars

A bit alarming that no one has wanted him for a full season. The dude has some tools and and on-ice motor. You have to wonder if he stirs the pot in the room

And added to our depth, remember last year's training camp our hopes were Hayden, Fortin Highmore, Sikura and Joki? much more depth on the Hogs, College and Jr.s this year.

Did Stan sort of hint Joki staying in Rockford this year too?

So maybe Murphy isn't going anywhere...

I hope they keep Murphy but definitely could be moved. I think Joki will have to earn his spot, but with DeHaan probably starting the year on IR for at least a little bit, it could open a spot. Kinda depends I guess who else could be hurt or if a guy like Dahlstrom really makes the team.
