Stan Bowman on a the Score just said Keith and Gus aren't going anywhere. He will look m for PK forward help in free agency or via trade. - mrpaulish
PK help at forward eh?
To me, that signals they need another C that can win draws.
Also, a guy like Brandon Tanev (mentioned by me and many others here) would be key. His 170+ SH TOI was 18th in the league last year.

I watched Dach's press conference and he reminds me a bit of Toews in his demeanor and matuirty. I was saying to D that he could conceivably max out in the 220-230 range and if he is able to keep his current skating and mobility he'll be a nightmare to opposing defenders as he's skating into the offensive zone or camped in front of the net. I just hope Hawk fans aren't disappointed when they find he's unlikely to put opponents through the boards or get into fights. I think he'll use his size to play mor e of a finesse game similar to Toews. - paulr

Cody Eakin, one year at 3.85M, 3C, perfect fit. Move AA for a pick. Net cap savings of about 700K this year. Dach slides in to 3C the following year.

We spent over $8.5M on 2 defencemen. That is a lot of dough, not a bargain as people are suggesting for a couple of marginal top 4 D with recent injury questions. Might we not have been better off to get one good one (Subban) for the same money?
Man, Bowman has really put his neck on the line if this does not pan out. - 67hawks
He puts his neck on the line every day he comes to work $4m is the going rate for#3-4 dman. So far he has gotten something for players that aren't going to be difference makers winning a cup. |

it makes sense..Gus goes at the deadline if they can't agree to a deal for the future... - wiz1901
If the Hawks are playoff bound by then, why trade Gus at the deadline? |

StanBow was on the Score 670.. want to know his next moves:
Stan Bowman said they kind of wore out their offensive players, and they'd like to add "a player or two" to fill the role.
But with that said....
"(Debrincat and Strome) need new deals a year from now, so any free agent we bring in, if it's beyond one season, we're going to be in that tough spot again." -Stan Bowman - golfbard
Read: No new roster players over one year deals because they have to have room to sign 12/17.
So I call BS on any deal for new players with more than one year left unless equal AAV and term are going the other way. That pretty much makes deals with any team non-starters unless they focus exclusively on expiring contracts or FAs willing to sign a one year deal. |

Everyone saw Hossa not playing once his contract dropped to 1mil. Same as Pronger and soon to be same as Luongo.
It is no coincidence all their "injury retirements" coincide with the exact same year their contract actuals go to 1mil - PatShart
Look, the point is that’s it’s possible that something sideways happens and Seabrook doesn’t finish out his contract with Hawks - outside of the two scenarios you state are the only two possibilities.
Now, the likelihood of that happening is a different conversation. |

$13.7 of cap space left imo Per HawksCap on the twitter machine.
Minus the money for the RFAs he wants to keep. 1 big add.
Still think its Pavelski or another C added via trade |

As bad as last year's offseason was for Stan last year, this year's moves look to be that of a very good GM. Getting players of need, and not losing sight of having space to sign his RFA's for next year. |

The question is where are you finding a center who would be willing to take a one year deal that will help. Filpulla was nice value for the Isles and I mentioned him earlier in this blog but me thinks he may want a 2-3 year deal off a strong season.
When Stan mentions only taking on one year deals, you have to consider that comment based on the current roster. If he starts talking about getting guys on longer than one year deals, people will ask about trading current guys because you can't pay everyone and that includes Strome and Cat next year. So me thinks if he's able to trade guys with term like Murphy and/or Ansimov, then that opens up a spot
for Stan to change the makeup of the team and add a player on a longer deal than one year. |

With Stan getting Matta and deHaan, it sounds like Vegas was asking too much for Miller and McNabb, as it does appear Stan and McKrimmon were talking a lot. |

Yes, if you move Anisimov, Stan can then seek a trade or signing for a player with more term. |

yes he can...cap recapture penalty was for pre 2013 long term contracts...
like you i doubt he retires... - bogiedoc
Why hasn't the "buyout" word been used yet with him? Stan too loyal, Seabs too valuable, BO too expensive? |

if term is the issue with the sharks...he aint going to find the $$$ or the term with the hawks...not at 35 and not with strome and adb coming to the ATM next year...

some one posted in the previous blog: a buyout of seabs is an expensive transaction with little cap relief: a total of about 8 mil over the next 4-5 years with full cap hit this year...
not gonna happen...

Why not Bellemare instead of Tanev?
Can actually play C and Wing. Great character guy that wouldn't cost as much. Was 54% on draws last year.
4th line of Caggulia-Kampf-Bellemare has 2 guys that can take/win draws |

And Stan was probably thinking to himself... “Ok, so this guy thinks he can get a better deal even though everyone knows he’s up against the cap... yep, I used to think that too. He’ll find out the hard way.” |

I think if they move Anisimov or Murphy for picks they get back to square one after the $8.5MM Stan has added already. I think he knows he needs to keep $15MM in cap in reserve for 2020-21.
An don't think the NHL Board of governors aren't going to have their accountants suppressing the HRR number next year too in advance of the CBA to keep cap growth low again. |
