At best, yes. Team is too soft, imo.

what type of raise do you think Michael Ferland out of Carolina is looking to get? I haven't heard about them resigning him...

would dumping Hagg's salary and maybe passing on one of Hartman/Laughton be around that amount?

Cost would probably be Ghost
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

I just can’t trade Ghost. I was playing on Cap friendly, trying any way possible to fit Marchessault without moving him. It’s just not possible. Not even with giving relatively small cap hits for the RFA’s. And that’s kinda with any decent winger to fill that spot.

Which brings me to this. It’s either got to be a kid that is given a shot to win a spot or Ghost has to go if they want to add someone with talent there.

NAK is a 2nd rd bust. Except flyers fans.
- daryl stanley

I'm hesitant to label any player taken lower than ~25 as a bust. If they hit, great. If not, they are just adding to the statistics that say very few players outside the 1st round ever play a significant role in the NHL.

Ferland would be a GREAT addition, but probably asking north of 5 mil, given he’s comparable to Tom Wilson in terms of style of play. Good combination of tenacity, scoring touch, and speed (without the frequent cheap shot/suspension!).

But I am not saying to use NAK on the 3rd line. I am saying to ue him on the 4th line. Hartman is likely to be used on the 4th line if re-signed. Moving Hartman to the 3rd line and bring NAK to the 4th line is an option
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

I agree. And if Fletch can't find a 3RW or one of the kids doesn't knock our socks off in camp, I think this is what we'll see (Hartman 3RW, NAK 4RW). Not ideal, but you gotta play the cards you have.

I just don't want to see them move on from Hartman just to give a lower cost player an opportunity in the same role.

You can add to that. Flyersbuzz complained all draft long. Pretty much everyone in the hockey world loved their draft.

1) Re-sign Sanheim and Konecny
2) Figure out a backup goalie situation, whether Lyons or a Free Agent
3) Re-Sign Laughton and Hartman (If they choose not to go to arbitration)
4) Whatever is left over try to re-sign Provorov

- Glak18

Trade ghost

Matt Carle has played 730 NHL games. THAT is what I look for in a first round pick. Is he Paul Coffey, Bobby Orr or Mark Howe? No. But he isn't Sam Morin, Ryan Sittler or Anthony DeAngleo either. If this kid plays 730 NHL games for the Flyers, then I'll be pretty happy and I'll say it was a quality pick.

The Flyers have 8 forwards signed with 2 RFAs, 6 dmen signed with 2 RFAs and 1 goalie. Goes to reason after signing the RFAs they will still need to add whether by UFA, promotion or trade 1 goalie and 2-3 forwards. Counting Schlemko’s buried contract they have rounded 22.5 million in cap space. If the rumored numbers for the UFAs are accurate you are looking at 18-20 million. That really doesn’t leave much for the additional goalie and forwards they need to add. This is why I am leery about adding Hayes, Braun (at least there are no long term ramifications) and Niskanen (not Niskanen as much as the retaining Gudas salary part).

Yes of course we want to add players to improve and I believe those players do but are they players that help get the flyers get to real contender status? Is having Giroux, Voracek, Hayes and JVR on 7 million plus cap hits going to help the Flyers become an elite team?

I get the frustration with Hextall. It was taking too long and we wanted to see progress. See the kids pushed along a bit. Changes made to better the team. But I won’t lie that Fletcher does bring back bad Holmgren (I believe there was also a good Holmgren) nightmares. Obviously building a cup winner is hard. 30 out of 31 teams fail every season and there is urgency with the Flyers because they have become so irrelevant over the last 9 years but you have to build wisely and spend wisely. I still am not confident in the leadership of Holmgren/Fletcher.

Seems like a nice deal with the promise of more once Niskanen comes off the books. Kind of times just right.

Wow. maybe this Fletcher guy isn't a total idiot

What if hayes pots 25+ goals and 60+ points the next 3 or 4 years. Will you still hate the contract?

Best move Sanbeim, he can set himself up for a monster deal in 2 yrs. I thought it would be difficult to go long term with him at this time

I believe the orginal reference was talking about moving on from players like Hartman and Laughton and replacing them with NAK, this would make the team much weaker imo, Laughton plays a pivotal role as the utility center/wing in the bottom 6 and I think Hartman can be productive.
- ClaudeFather

My point is Laughton is #4 C. Do you really want to pay 2mil or more on a 4th line guy when we may need additional room for our good rfas?
