Please don't place a player like Farabee on the 4th line. He needs to play and play a lot in his first season in pro hockey. Put the kid where he belongs in the AHL. Then after half a season or a season if he is ready, he can jump in on a higher line.
- MJL

Not a question. Farabee should never play lower than the third line

Of course, that is worst case. Laughton is 25, not sure the Flyers should pay extra for him to forgoe a yr of FA. Curious to see where his cap hit ends up.
- ravishingone

I don't see it as paying extra. He can play center or wing. He scored 12 goals and 32 points last season. He is one of the key PKers on the team. He gives you center depth and can move up in the lineup if needed. He is an important player for this team. If Pitlick can play center, Laughton may be a 3rd line winger.

I think we're looking at more like 2.5M for Laughton.
- MJL

That may be the case. I honestly have no idea how Fletcher views Laughton from a salary standpoint. I just used evolving wild's projections as a starting point (they say 2-3 years at 1.7) and went a little higher. Admittedly, I kept it low so they could afford everyone else, and some free agents and have some wiggle room

It's definitely doable so long as they trade Hagg. I was playing around with cap friendly a bit and got this (of course I dont really know what each player will sign for, just estimations on my part)
Konecny - bridge deal at 4.375
Laughton - 1.8
Provorov - long term at 7.125
NAK - .825

free agent signings:
Donskoi - 3.2
McElhinney - 1.1

trade Hagg for a late round pick.. leaves them with 1,017,421 in cap space. Morin as the 7th D, NAK as the 13th forward

- fecondo

My calculations, that would put the Flyers at 80,675,000. Leaving them 825K under the cap. That's a little tight.

Even if he has an eye opening camp, I don’t think he cracks the third line.

I don't think this moves the needle much whatsoever. Like you said, purely a cap thing. I think hartman is probably better than pitlick but not by such a degree as to matter and now we have more room for the RFAs. And pitlick is off the books after this year leaving room for a younger player
- bulet13

Exactly. This isn't worth getting worked up about.

Maybe Im miscounting but the roster is short a couple of players. Says roster size 22 but I only count 20 players.

Me, either. I am a hardass about that. If you had him slotted for the fourth line, those are the contracts that bother me the most

I recognize that some of those are
better at playing up than some. Not looking for a fight. Just don’t think a team should pay fourth-liners who you know are fourth-liners too much

To me, for example, Michael Raffl is paid perfectly. You have him slotted on the fourth line but he can play higher, so he makes what he does and I am ok with that. If Raffl couldn’t move up for stretches, he would be overpaid for me

Yeah it didn't include the scratches for some reason. The two that are missing are Morin (700,000) &

I actually made a mistake because I didn't remove Lyon so I was counting 3 goalies. That looks right. The only thing is that is a minimum roster with no 7th defenseman or extra forward.

So add in a 7th (Morin) and a 13th forward. Even at league minimum, there is an issue. Need at least 1M for injuries and call ups.

I hear that and I'm 100% in agreement. However one of the biggest gripes with the fan base is wanting a better 4th line. Sometimes that costs more cap wise.

So if my math is right that is 3 contracts that come off the books after next season?

Niskanen , Braun and Pitlick?

So now add 1,525,000 to 80,482,579 and that brings you to 82,007,579. Which puts you over the upper limit by 507,579. Keep in mind you have to have about 1M for injuries and call ups. The other fly in the ointment is what about performance bonuses for players like Carter Hart? If he has them, that could cause further issue by causing carryover cap penalties with the bonus cushion. I don't see room for your free agent winger unless they make some other move.

If they move JVR and bring in Frost they'll get some nice breathing room but who knows if Frost is ready. I think they could get away with Lindblom as the 2LW until Frost develops if need be.
