I don't think this moves the needle much whatsoever. Like you said, purely a cap thing. I think hartman is probably better than pitlick but not by such a degree as to matter and now we have more room for the RFAs. And pitlick is off the books after this year leaving room for a younger player
- bulet13

I'm not going to pretend to know Pitlick inside and out. Like I said previously, I think Hartman is the more talented player but he is also an underachiever. I don't think the difference between the two players is large but I think they're a different type of player from each other. Plus if Hartman's salary request was out of whack then this is the kind of move you'd make.

So he's Hartman.

the only thing i can think of is we're signing someone better and we need the cap space
- 2Real

Possible. If that happens then this trade will make sense.

Yup. Hextall wasn't getting much better for Simmonds (if he even moved him) at the deadline himself.

Can't do anything about it now. But the a decent portion of the fanbase was calling for him to be moved for a year+. Frustrating.

- hereticpride

Exactly. We knew he was slowing down and losing value if they didnt trade him before the season and Hexy blew it. Could have definitely gotten a decent 1st for him. Oh well lets get back to hating fletcher now

5. Pitlick is a 4th line schlub.

Thanks for playing Waldo.

So is hartman. Next

It's definitely doable so long as they trade Hagg. I was playing around with cap friendly a bit and got this (of course I dont really know what each player will sign for, just estimations on my part)
Konecny - bridge deal at 4.375
Laughton - 1.8
Provorov - long term at 7.125
NAK - .825

free agent signings:
Donskoi - 3.2
McElhinney - 1.1

trade Hagg for a late round pick.. leaves them with 1,017,421 in cap space. Morin as the 7th D, NAK as the 13th forward

Nice job

Really? pitlick played in almost half he amount of games as hartman last season an scored 4 less goals. He had more goals than hartman 2 seasons ago and seems to be a responsible 4th line player which im not sure hartman is really anything special defensively.

If you viewed Hartman as a fourth-liner, it makes sense, at least to me, because he was going to make too much

Pitlick is a fourth-liner/defensive forward making what he should make

My opinion is it’s the kind of move you make in the cap world; Pitlick is in his final year. Hartman was going to cost more and maybe get term to boot and if you saw them in the same role — limited minutes — then it’s the right move

geez...

4th line, million less bucks better term. Nice surprise hearing he can skate and hit, hartman was not a great skater.

million in cap will go a long way this season

they had to keep Simmer, it was the right thing to do, no one could see Simmer falling like a rock.

I think he will score 20 plus this season.

I think we're looking at more like 2.5M for Laughton.

Exactly. This was a salary dump, 4th liner for 4th liner. Pitlick has better size. We all agree we can use a little more jam. If we get 80 games and a few goals great. I want someone to represent the Orange and Black the right way and hit everything and play tough.

In all fairness to Hextall, Simmonds fell off a cliff with lightning speed.
- Sinisalo4vr

I don’t blame Hextall for not trading Simmonds, though I maybe would have

Remember: They were trying to win last year. They didn’t think they were gonna play like they did and get multiple people fired. Hextall thought Simmonds would help, so I understood

Curious is that figure on a bridge deal or multi yr extension?

So do we think Pitlick becomes 4C? And maybe Laughton moving to wing?
- MBFlyerfan

Yes. That’s my guess. they’ll take a stab at a one year ufa leftover winger for the 3rd line hopefully

I would sure like a 4th line of farabee-pitlick-laughton

Please don't place a player like Farabee on the 4th line. He needs to play and play a lot in his first season in pro hockey. Put the kid where he belongs in the AHL. Then after half a season or a season if he is ready, he can jump in on a higher line.

ok thanks, I think that is a little high, but I m just a fan on Hockeybuzz. I do think a 2 yr deal makes sense. A chance in 2 yrs he could beat out Patrick for the 3rd line center spot. Certainly. I hope not, but Laughton could cash in.

I think Laughton is a good player and the kind of player you need in your bottom 6 to be a good team but if he is beating out Patrick for the 3rd line center spot. Houston, we have a problem!

That’s where I am

Ideally, you want young guys to push vets down because they are ready, not have to fight to stay in the lineup and get minutes

If he makes the team and shows that he can play, has to be in a top 9 spot. Otherwise AHL bound. There is an open spot.

Of course, that is worst case. Laughton is 25, not sure the Flyers should pay extra for him to forgoe a yr of FA. Curious to see where his cap hit ends up.
