This is the first day of the legal tampering period, no.? Maybe just coincidence Hartman gets traded today. My conspiracy theory is that Fletcher got a commitment from a UFA RW, which meant Hartman was traded.

the cap situation is at the point where they have to trade for an inferior player?
Is this a make or break in whether they compete this year? Prob not, but making trades and getting the worse player is what this franchise seems to do more often than not.

Decent size. Plays physical. Must have some skill...he was pretty high pick (31). Only has a year left. Sounds ok with me. Is he a ginger?
- Dkos

He's a really fun player to watch. He was a fan favourite in Edmonton for his speed, forechecking, physical play and timely goal scoring and should bring much the same to Philly. Despite his stat line, he's precisely the type of player I would want in my bottom-6 heading into the playoffs. This is all when he's healthy, of course.

uhhh what?
- 2Real

He scored 14 goals 2 yrs ago when he played 80 games.Had 8 last yr playing 47.So it seems to me that if he plays every night he can get you 12-15 goals a yr.Is that good enough for you?The guy is a 4th line player

That's exactly what I want from a 4th liner. Also had 70% d-zone starts last year which is just absurd. Regardless, he may not even be a mainstay on the roster (13th forward)

The Simmonds trade really is the gift that keeps on giving
- Nucker101

I mean hextall waited far too long to ship simmonds out. It's really not Fletchers fault simmonds no longer had any value. But i mean go ahead and bash Fletcher anyways

Doubtful. They need to sign a backup goalie. The open RW spot will likely end up with someone making close to league minimum barring any other trades.
- hereticpride

I don t know, I thought there was a consensus Sanheim s cap hit was going to be more. Laughton is probably getting around 1.6 million. Only way TK gets 5 million is if he signs long term. Haven t done the math, but might be possible to sign a RW for 3.5 million considering they waive Schlmenko and trade Hagg.

Possible but they really don't have the cap space to add anyone significantly unless they trade someone significantly. I think they got a decent 4th line and some cap savings. That wiggle room is needed to get all the RFA's signed and to get a backup goalie.

1. Hartman was invisible except for his 1st game.
2. Hartman was gonna ask for around 2.5mil.
3. Hartman is not worth 2.5 mil and is easily replaceable with our younger fwd prospects.

Properly just coincidence.Fletcher does things systematically
Hartmann was in 4th RW position now he got position for less then Raffl on 4th LW
He increased the chances to sign Laughton with this trade
Guess Hartmann wanted just too much money ( understandable so )

Yup. Hextall wasn't getting much better for Simmonds (if he even moved him) at the deadline himself.

Can't do anything about it now. But the a decent portion of the fanbase was calling for him to be moved for a year+. Frustrating.

So do we think Pitlick becomes 4C? And maybe Laughton moving to wing?

By what standard is he worse? They're the same except Pitlick costs a million less dollars and 3 or 4 years less term.

In all fairness to Hextall, Simmonds fell off a cliff with lightning speed.

5. Pitlick is a 4th line schlub.

Since he came from the Dallas Stars, Bill will know the player well. We'll see what he says.

I don't think this moves the needle much whatsoever. Like you said, purely a cap thing. I think hartman is probably better than pitlick but not by such a degree as to matter and now we have more room for the RFAs. And pitlick is off the books after this year leaving room for a younger player

It's definitely doable so long as they trade Hagg. I was playing around with cap friendly a bit and got this (of course I dont really know what each player will sign for, just estimations on my part)
Konecny - bridge deal at 4.375
Laughton - 1.8
Provorov - long term at 7.125
NAK - .825

free agent signings:
Donskoi - 3.2
McElhinney - 1.1

trade Hagg for a late round pick.. leaves them with 1,017,421 in cap space. Morin as the 7th D, NAK as the 13th forward

the only thing i can think of is we're signing someone better and we need the cap space
