Shopping in springtime is highly overrated.
Toronto, Tampa and even the Perds
have gotten rid of cap on the cheap.
TT worth more than JT Miller
Subban for 2nds and 2 prospects - gazza53
All those deals listed above happened in the summer or offseason.
I am talking about the trade deadline when cap constraints are more in play and most buyers don't want to part with rostered players to improve....so they use picks and sometimes highly coveted prospects.
Toronto just lost a MAJOR piece they could move and if you recall.....to get Muzzin they had to give up a 1st. |

Anders Lee and Tanev would change the forward group significantly. Some how add another legit blue liner, this team could be something. - frafra
Wonder what salary/term these two UFA’s would be looking for. |

I agree. If there was a time for the Hawks to pounce on other teams financial dilemmas, now is that time. Get a player or two who can help them win - frafra
If ever there was a year to offer sheet players this is it.

I am with you on all except Gusav, rumor is he is going back to the KHL. - LAHawk
Haven’t seen that and I’m not really aware of his situation, but the opportunity to play with Kane or Toews, coupled with the success of former teammate Panarin when he came over after having nothing left to prove in the K might be enticing for him.
Additionally, Vegas already had a successful KHL player in Shipachyov come over and things turned sour with the team so he returned home. He played with Gusev so I’m sure they’ve talked about it/Gusev might not want to be in Vegas so he’s threatening staying in the K. |

That is a good question. I think they’ll look to improve their bottom 6 forwards and defensive depth. The top 6 is fine, both in the short term and long term.
As much as the Maatta Trade surprised us, Stan upgraded the defense without giving up much. - DarthKane
I don't disagree...I'd just prefer another top 6 player.
I agree on Maatta regardless of the hate of his speed. He took Hayden and turned him into Quenneville.
IF hes going big game hunting via trade it has to be out of a pool of AA, Saad, Murphy or Gus. I doubt they want to move to Saad, so out of those 3...who can fetch the best return and not create another massive hole for you by giving said player up?
To me.....that player is Murphy. I don't know what Gus can get back, but his offensive game is superior to anything they have on the roster.
AA would be next.... |

There's belief Marner wants 10 million AAV
That's insane. Any team that offsheets him and gives us all those picks for this kid is crazy. Hes NOT a generational talent. Hell he's not even 1 of the 2 best players on his team...…

Damn right! EVERY Hawk fan should watch this again and again.
Especially if you are as old as me and the Jacques lemaire shot that beat Espo is the etched memory that will NEVER leave, At least that Nashville ending can help dull the pain!!! |

Babcock has hinted that he believes Marner is the best player on the Leafs.
Marner plays in key situations, defensively responsible and has his coaches trust in the last minutes of a game, regardless of score. |

I’m of the opinion that none of those players have to be moved.
I get why folks would want AA moved, but at the end of the day for $4M you could do a lot worse for your 3C. Not to mention, him and Saad (as well as Kahun) were terrific together and did a great job driving possession. If Sikura takes that next step this season as we are hoping he does that could be quite a formidable third line.
Not sure why people want Murphy moved when at the end of the day he’s likely our most consistent defensive d-man. I actually am really intrigued of Maatta/Murphy being our shutdown d-pair. Not gonna do much offensively, but you can count on them to do their thing in the defensive zone in the way that Oduya/Hammer did.
Saad is only going to be moved for a top-four d-man, but I don’t see one readily available. If Faulk is still on the team’s radar I’ll puke. Saad has a lot of value to us as a depth scorer. One of those situations where it doesn’t make sense to sell low on him, and we aren’t in a position to need that cap flexibility by moving his salary.
I’d like to see us round our roster out with trades (taking advantage of other teams’ cap situations). Bring in a Tanev in FA, and roll the team out. We’re closer than many think. |

and playing on the pk as well. |

Just perusing Cap Friendly, and even the Coyotes don't have free cap space. They have for next year 12 contracts and have $59 mil committed (including Hossa). That leaves them approximately $22 mil. for 11 players, including resigning RFA Keller, Fisher, Hinastrosa, and UFA Galcheynuk. After this year the slack is going to be out of Cap Space (except for probably Ottawa), so cap strapped teams are going to really find it hard to dump salaries. |

I’d be surprised if Anisimov was on the team when the season starts. I don’t have any issues with AA, he’s better than most think, but I expect he’ll be dealt for a couple mid-round picks.
I wonder if Gus would accept a Ghostibehere type deal, just with less term.
I expect Stan knows he’s on the hot seat, another lost season and his job is in jeopardy. He’ll be smart but he needs to be aggressive. |

This from Pierre LeBrun's column on The Athletic:
Blackhawks plans
My sense is the Blackhawks don’t plan on a lot of UFA action early this week but that could change later in the week. A source suggested the Hawks are more focused on trades early this week. And I think part of that is that the term it’s going to take to sign most UFAs on the market isn’t terribly appealing to a Chicago team that has a good cap situation. A year from now, the Hawks don’t want to be in a position to have to shed assets just to sign their RFAs. So for now it’s about trades where there are players out there with shorter terms left on their contracts. But obviously, if that doesn’t work out, the UFA market will also come into play.
No surprise here IMO. - golfbard
Spot on.
Stan is only interested in one year remaining deals - its all he has capacity for, unless one of those deals creates an opportunity to let a guy like AA go - Clarkson+Eakin for example.
Either that or even up dollar and term for dollar and term trades, which is likely a wash lineup wise. Create a hole to fill another one type of thing.
My feeling is that other teams can/will offer VGK/SJS/TOR far more than Stan can/will offer and the best options will be gone. No to mention VGK and SJS are conference rivals.
Corey Perry anyone? |

The only trades that work out is if you get a guy you can keep longer then 1 year OR you win a cup.
All this trade did was take away 2 assets from Toronto. |
