I like the trade, but I am trying to understand it from Carolina's perspective. Do they think they can develop Forsling into a possible second pair caliber D? And do they think Forsberg can become serviceable? They seem to have cap space now. About $25 mill left to fill 8 spots on the roster. Maybe they did it for cap space, but they usually aren't ones to go up against the limit. - 333inthe3rd
Saw someone mention that CAR needed two goalies on their roster in order to buy out Darling (per NHL rules) and they had only one. Forsberg was likely one of the cheapest options. |

Nothing wrong with Kessel if he is playing on a winning team, brutal playing with a loser. He knows he is going to be traded, but holds all the cards with his NTC.
Pens need cap space and young kids on ELC's. |

His maturity belies his age. What I have noticed about him is that he's very cerebral and poised. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the big club out of camp even though It might not be In the best interest of his development. - BGKarras
I just don’t buy this line of thinking. If you’re good enough to play in the NHL, that is the best place for you to play and grow your game. If you’re not good enough, you go back to Junior. He won’t be handed a roster spot, he will have to earn it. Especially a young man with his physique he is immediately one of the biggest guys on the ice. |

Soooooo much Salary allocated to depth defense now in Maata, Murphy, De Haan and Seabrook...something’s gotta give... - EnzoD
That's nearly $20 mill tied up in 4 D men with real injury histories. This could come back and bite them hard. But I only play a doctor on TV. |

You think they will carry nine defensemen (assuming Joki makes the team) ? - frafra
Only 8 with de Haan on IR for the first two months. They’ll carry 7 and send someone to Rockford |

Interesting. Thanks for pointing it out. A real shame that Darling didn't work out for them. |

Rumor here in NC is that they are trying to convince Marleau to play for them. |

A nice deal with CAR. Hawks lose NOTHING of value and get a guy who can play defense as well as a decent C prospect.
Salary is going out soon. I bet on Murphy next. Stan has added about a net $7MM AAV beyond next season.
If my predictions are accurate, he will leave this off-season with no more than $4-5MM AAV growth past the upcoming season.
I’m betting much more to come. |

Oh i think he will earn it or at least give the top brass a very difficult decision to make. I said it might not be in his best interest. Who knows he could come in and show he belongs. |

And now we know the real reason they didn't draft #44 Bowen Byram - cuz they were going to acquire #44 Calvin deHaan. |
