I am with you, Ric...I at first was kind of saddened but we don't know if his agent and the kid wanted out or a new start.

I think he has upside, potential, but the Hawks got better for now, with this one and you have to think some other defender(s) may be sent packing too

- wiz1901

Forsling did his job, showed enough skill to get De Haan in a trade...... Sure he may or may not end up a player but AS IS Hawks have Maatta and De Haan inked for 3 more yrs, Keith for 4 more, Seabs for 27 more yrs, Joki ready, the 4 horsemen knocking at the door and a kid I just like in Gilbert along with Carlsson.

Perfect timing to move him along IMO. Nice nice way to utilize assets by StanBow and start busting up the logjam at D.

Curious what you think of going high risk high reward with Dach as opposed to a high floor of say a Turcotte/Zegras? .......... Kid will be elite if he clicks at the NHL level but IMO his floor is low.

Crazy talk just for the heck of it.....

Is there any thought that KEITH could be the LD moved? As in, his cap his reasonable and he is still effective, albeit not in top form.

Is it worth even considering what caliber of F the Hawks could get in return?

- phantasmo

Considering he is still their best D-man? I say no.

... and the trend continue for Stan Bowman acquiring former 1st round picks. This is getting comical:

Dylan Strome - 3rd overall
Brendan Perlini - 12th
Slater Koekoek - 10th
Olli Maatta - 22nd
John Quenneville - 30th
Calvin de Haan - 12th

... all since November 2018

I'm a bit delirious (lack of sleep and happy about de Haan trade), so realize that this is a stretch.

For arguments sake, what would it take for you to unload Keith without a true "1" (or one time "1") on the roster? A Top 6 F? I think the D STILL needs to improve via upgrades of F's up and down the roster (a la Eakin, Kadri, other).

I think Stan has a lot of feelers to the South (FLA)....some beloved Hawk (perhaps AA) will likely soak up some sun and cap space with Q.

Is there any common thread other than "talent upside"? I liked the connection that Maata and de Haan were loved by teammates and helped the presence in the "room".

Is Florida taking a defender off our hands?

- wiz1901

If I'm gonna dream about FLA it would be centerman Trocek. If this physical, 850 FO win, 51% lifetime at the dot, 250 SOG, 26 yr old was on most any other team but FLA everyone would know about him.

Saw that too. Great qualities. I wonder if they will trade another defenseman for a forward now

If you're a 1st rounder, there's a good chance you've been in the spotlight of some sort growing up. Most of these guys are leaders and winners as they come up through the ranks as well.

I'm not sure that it's an actual tactic by Stan, but it is interesting.

If the Hawks think Boqvist is ready next season do you add Joki as a sweetner to try and rid yourself of Seabeooks contract?
- SoftServe

I wouldn't.... I would sacrifice picks before I gave up Jokiharju...

Maybe Seabrook, 2020 1st & Krys for 6th round pick..

IMO, I could really see Seabrook going to Florida. Q loves him some Seabrook, and I'm sure there are only a few places Seabrook would waive his NMC for and Florida is one of them due to the Q factor.....

I heard a rumor that Bowman had a deal in place at the draft to send Seabrook and the 3rd overall pick to Vancouver for their 10th overall pick. Obviously it fell through..

Faulk, De Haan in trade talks
Pavelski, Gustav Nyquist, Anders Lee in FA

Said Hawks want back in playoffs and to compete. They wanna get two of the players listed.

- frafra

So they got one of their guys, which forward do you think they get?

Gus still is a lotto chip for someone with anemic backend. Lots of teams would like him as 6D if only for the PP
- phantasmo

The Hawks are just the type of team that could use Gus though - there is no offense from the backend without him. Keith was on pace for like 20 points or less before they were paired. If Seabrook is benched, then you've lost another 30-ish points right there from the backend.

Murphy, De Haan, and Maatta are good for maybe 15 points each which is not good enough in modern NHL. Jokiharju was at a 26-ish pace so that could help but it's not the 40-60 they need from a top end player.

Look at the projected point totals for the top 4 on the handful last cup winners.

Blues: 48, 37, 29, 18
Caps: 68, 35, 31, 18
Pens: 68, 53, 26, 28
Pens: 77, 36, 34, 23
Hawks: 46, 32, 24, 19
Kings: 39, 34, 30, 26
Hawks: 47, 36, 36, 31

I like his game. Can play center and wing. Wouldn’t mind Huberdeau too

Plays left wing, Finnish, 5’10 200lbs. 3rd round pick a few years ago. 2 seasons in the A so far. 54 pts in 69 games last year and +18

I question the timing of this trade. Did Stan really need to pull the trigger today, he could have waited and gave up less to get De Haan. #anotherbowmanfail
- DarthKane

Darth, with a chance to add a legit NHL dman who is 28 yrs old, inked for 3 more yrs at a reasonable number (and will become even more so each yr that passes) for what they gave up, both players not in the Hawks' plans, you do it before CAR wises up or finds a better return.

Very nice pairings and possibly a real shutdown pairing in De Haan and Murphy with De Haan replacing Dahlstrom in that role from last yr.

Anders Lee.

The Hawks pulled a White Sox move...they brought in De Haan because he is a former teammate of Lee! LOL

Does the Blackhawks roster look more appealing to free agents after the Maata/De Haan additions?

Happy that the blackhawks have added a couple of definitive dmen.

I think the lineup is something along the lines of:

Keith-Murphy
De Haan-Maata
Gus-Seabs

Gus and Seabs as the solid third pair and gus on the 1st pp, can maata play the right side? Maybe they make the new shut down pair a la Hammer Oduya

Let Jokijaru marinate in Rockford, he’s a young dman who should not be rushed

Considering he flipped a crap goalie in forsberg and a kid they may not even have qualified for a f prospect and another stay at home shot blocking d man signed below 5 aav? Yeah....this is pretty sweet.

Agreed on Gus. Need him for pp. have to wonder if murphy is getting dealt. As I posted earlier he seems most likely and if not him then you go to AA or Saad who people don’t want to move for obvious reasons.

I’d bet he has another deal coming in next day or so for a f.
